My 1st Failed ICSI!

Dear friends,

Iam 26 and I have PCO and a septate uterus with high prolactin...DH is 31 with high MF.Hence we decided to go for ICSI.I was in June 2009 ICSI batch.

Everything was fine from the beginning.blood work was good and I was a good responder..11 eggs retrieved and I had a mild degree of OHSS after ER and all 11 eggs fertilised(DH had 8 Million sperms(2% motility and 10% normal
forms) on the day of ER.4 of them made it to day 5.Hence they put back 2 day 5 embryos in my womb and frozen the remaining 2 embryos.7 embryos did not make it to day 5.My lining was 12 mm on the day of ET.

I got a BFN.My Doctor is very much confident about my frozen embryos and she is not able to give a valid reason for my BFN and she says that it may be due to implantation fault.Hence Iam physically and mentally preparing myself for FET in Aug/Sep 2009.

I have the following questions. Please help me out!

1.Here(In India),we dont get the details about the quality of eggs, sperm and resulting embryos. My doctor says that the quality of all the above three are good and she says that my frozen embryos are .of expanding blastocysts.what does it mean?Does it mean good quality?.If they are good,I should have got all my 11 eggs made it to day 5 is it correct?

2.I have a failed cycle resulting out of the day 5 embryos. How can I assume a success from the same set of embryos that are frozen??

Many thanks in advance!

My virtual hugs to all the girls who had a failed cycle!

I had 3 IVF-ICSI's fail (MF). I also ended up feeling like a poor responder, not sure if that was true - I had MUCH fewer eggs retrieved that other women. At least once, they threatened to cancel me. I don't think they ever got more than 15 eggs. Many of them were immature. Embryos always looked fragmented. RE never had answers as to WHY. I am so sorry - it's very frustrating. They did not grade embryos at my clinic - they always told me they were good though. I never had any to freeze. I hope your FET works!

My good friend was doing a 3rd fresh IVF cycle. Because she only had 1 embie, she wanted to transfer her two FEs (from a previous cycle obviously) at the same time (she was physically and emotionally exhausted). Her RE insisted she not transfer the FEs. He said an IVF cycle is not ideal for embryo development because the focus is ovarian stimulation. That her FEs should be transferred when her womb is optimally prepared. There are so many factors, but that was his recommendation to her.

I just went to CDC's site for IVF statistics and sure enough ... for the two clinics I am considering, FET had significantly higher livebirth success in 4 out of 6 categories. (That's useful for me to consider.)

Can your septate uterus be surgically fixed? I had a septate uterus and had surgeery to fix it in Oct.

I had it fixed surgically last year and a HSG was taken ten days back(after my failed IVF)to ensure it.Everything is fine.I see from your profile that you had some miscarriages. Are they due to septate uterus?

Puny,

I failed my first IVF (with ICSI) in June also. I was totally bummed! Now I just have to move on and looking forward to my Sept. FET transfer. I'm also on the Aug. FET board so I can get as much support and hope as possible. Maybe you can get on it too and get more info.?
