Anyone experience chemical pregnancy?

My DH and I just finished our first IVF cycle. We had ET done May 16th so the Dr wanted first blood test done week later May 23rd and second one done May 26th to test my HCG levels. Well on 26th nurse called to tell us my first level was 5 and second was 17 which meant I was pregnant. We were so excited and happy. Now Dr was concerned about the 2nd number not being as high as they would have liked so they told me to get another blood test done in two days which was today May 28th. Well I got the dreaded call from my nurse that my numbers dropped which meant I miscarried and am no longer pregnant. We were devastated, just two days earlier we were told I was pregnant and now thats taken away from me. The nurse said I had a chemical pregnancy. I guess it's when the embryo attaches to the uterus but then stops developing and ends up as miscarriage. So I'm just wondering if anybody else has had a chemical pregnancy.

I had a chemical too. It was my 4th ivf. They called and said the HCG was 49. I was thrilled. Then I had it redrawn (policy) and it was 24. They said it was a chemical. It was right before Christmas. It was crushing. I am trying again. I had an IVF since that was cancelled due to poor response and then another. The retrieval was yesterday. They got 6 eggs. I am stressfully waiting for the fertilization results.

I hope you try again after your chemical. My doctor said it is better than a total negative because it shows your body can get pregnant.

Good luck!!!!

Thanks Shadow for your comments. You are right that it's better than BFN but still hurts when one day your pregnant and then 2 days later your not. I do have more FE so we are definitely going to try again. Hope this time they'll stick and grow. Just got to keep thinking positively. Hope all your eggs become mature embryos and good luck...we all need it.

I also had a chemical preg. It was just a few months ago. It was hard, but we have moved on and did one IUI cycle which failed, and are now starting our second IUI cycle. Best of luck to you both.

I recently had a "CP" during the same month that my baby would have been born from a previous pregnancy that ended at 7wks. It was devestating. I am looking to IVF #2 hopefully in September. My doc thinks that maybe I clot just a little too much and it could be affecting the bloodflow to my uteris. Makes some sense, but I am still afraid. I just can't believe that I was so close...yet so far. We always hear of people telling about their long long road to becoming parents and saying that is was worth it. I hope we get to say the same thing. I don't have much insight, but I do know how hard it is. I still can't go anywhere near my pregnant sister in law. And I am no longer pretending to be fine when I am not. I have had many ups and downs. I am astounded at how strong I am, but don't know how much more I can take. We all have the right to feel however we feel. I pray so hard that it works for us this next time.

I also had a CP on my very first IVF cycle... personally I think it's cruel. On the other hand, it was the most postive thing that's happened to me in about 4 years. I"m really sorry that you had to experience this but hopefully your next cycle will have a much better outcome. stay positive

Well I'm 3 weeks into my 2nd FET and it's looking like another chemical pg or an ectopic this time. My levels ars still really low but they do keep risining so that is why they think could be ectopic. This is just so hard and frustrating. My RE is thinking that if chemical again that maybe I have something more wrong with me as to why I can get pg but not stay pg. It's bad enough to have to go thru IVF and now find out there could be more wrong w/me. Well I'm going in for ultrsound tomorrow morning to see if they can determine if ectopic and if so will give me the shot to end it. I'm so heart broken because right now I am pregnant but just not developing to where it should be or in the wrong spot and so by tomorrow I might not be pregnant.
Has anybody else had multiple chemicals?

I haven't even gotten my beta done yet (it's tomorrow) and I'm pretty sure I had a CP, because yesterday I got a faint line on a hpt and today there's nothing. I am so depressed already. I am dreading tomorrow.

I didn't have multiple chemicals, but I had multiple m/c's and then a chemical. They usually say that once you have a chemical, your next cycle is usually successful. Wishing you all the best of luck

Wendy, I've had four biochemicals (in the midst of one now) and an ectopic. I meet with my IVF dr next week. I (and DH) have had specialized testing, but no answers so far. The dr mentioned PGS, but that's typically a last resort - and I'd like to think that I am not there yet.

I am sorry for this limbo you are in. I am glad you and your dr's are taking the ectopic risk seriously. Last year, a nurse scheduled my 2nd u/s one week out (instead of two days) and it almost cost me my life (big time). I was actually relieved this week when I was told my abnormally increasing HCG started going down on its own!!! I am sad I don't get my forever baby, but I'll be ready to try again soon!

I know you still need to see this pg to the end (me too although mine is nearer). After that, I'd like to see what our dr's have to say!

Hugs for this difficult time.
~Sharon
