PCOS with irregular cycles..
I have PCOS and have irregular cycles all my life.I am now 26. Sometimes I will get my period 2 months in a row around the same time, and sometimes I will miss 3 months. Its crazy! So, since seeing a specialist I a have been diagnosed with PCOS. I was put on birth control in December 08. My periods have been regular give or take 3-4 days. My husband and I are ready to have a child. My doctor took me off Birth control pills last month (Which was right after my last birth control pill) I got my period in march. Since I am now off the birth control pill, what happens if I do not get my period. That would mean I would not be ovulating. Has anyone experienced this? How was it fixed? I go to see my doctor at the end of April to see how my blood results came back-he wants my progesterone levels checked before my first IUI. I will ask him then, but wondered if anyone else has exprienced this?

Fellow PCOS'er here--- I too have very irregular periods very simular to how you describe. Since we were not preventing pregnancy, I usually have to do a "withdrawal" bleed (meaning I have to take a med like provera then get a period) every 2-3 months if I do not get a period to prevent too much lining build up. I also do a pregnancy test just to be sure, but since I don't usually ovulate there is a slim chance of that.
Once I am completely done having children I will probably go on bcp- ob thinks this will be the way to go. As for the not ovulating- I am cycling now with an RE- I am using injectable drugs to help follicle growth and then with do a trigger shot to cause me to ovulate. Most likely a specialist will try try clomid (a pill) and maybe some metformin (depending on your insulin resistance) to try to help you ovulate if this is the case. Best of luck to you! Jen |

I have PCOS too and I was also put on bc pills to regulate my period. Without the pills I get no period whatsoever. So when we were ttc with our first child, our RE took me off bc and gave me Provera every 3 months (after taking a pg test just to be sure). The plan was that if this didn't work after a year, I'd start clomid. Well at the very end of the year it worked. I understand your worries about not ovulating at all because that was my concern too. But I'm guessing that taking the Provera helped us the first time around.
