Anyone Switch Dr or Clinic?
I have just had my second failed cycle. First fresh IVF failed and this was FET and also failed. I do actually get positive betas but then end up miscarrying. I have found this board to be very supportive. No one really understands what we are going through except the IF sisters on this board.
My question is: I am really torn between staying with my current RE and switching. I live in the middle of a rural area, and I drive 6 hours to my RE now. I can drive another 6 hours in a different direction and go to a new RE/Clinic. But I have heard this might not always be a good idea because your current RE now knows how you will respond and can change your protocol. What do you all think about switching?

I am witching clinics, i have had one failed ivf, and I am about to start a second ivf. Reasons why I am changing. 1. I have not got much money to waste, so I would like to find the best RE 2.I had 5 emb. transferred and none implanted, and my RE could not explain why. He thinks it is a genetic issue. If it is genetic then it has to do with the emb., he has not offered any solution. 3. I would like to do PGD, which checks for the normal emb., I have also found out that PGD with CGh is even a better method so why not try it. 4. From my reseach only CCRM and SIRM clinics in the usa offer it. 5. I don't mind travelling to them, even if it means for one BFP. 6. First IVF is always a trial for most people, but i would be sending my protocol and medial notes to my new clinic, and they can work it as they can see how i responded. In fact I would be travelling from the UK to the USA, for this second cycle. I pray this would be my BFP cycle. |

Thanks Choice for responding. It is funny you mentioned CCRM that is the clinic I am thinking of switching to. I have a phone interview set up with them on 9-5. I am already leaning toward switching but I guess I will decide after the phone conversation. good luck to you too.

They usually say to switch after 2 failed cycles...but I wish I had done it after one. Wherever you go, make sure you get the answers you want, before moving forward. And make sure they change your protocol to something new.
Good Luck to you. |

I called a RE that I used for artificial insemination 6 years ago, and since I used another doctor for my IVF, he will not accept me as a patient again. Isn't that horrible? I've never heard of such a thing. I was really looking forward to working with him again, but I'm glad I found out how close minded he really is! They told me that going to another doctor for a 2nd opinion was OK, but not one that did a procedure. I told them that was absolutely the most ridiculous think I had ever heard. It's just absurd to be that way, at least I think. So, I'm just going to keep looking....
Thanks for listening, Sandy |

That's so horrible for the RE to do that to you, any way never mind it may be a bessing for you. I hope the next RE you find would be the one, to giv you that positive result Try and find an RE that also do immune testing for e.g NK cells etc, it is worth it. I wonder what state you are at? because there are good Re everywhere Check out the website below of the yahoo immunology group In the file section you would see a list of Re's that also do immune tests http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group...t/messages?o=1 Goodluck |

I'm at Cornell now, having switched from RMA. RMA was a nightmare - HUGE waits, the windowless waiting room was so packed women were sitting on the floor in the elevator bank during monitoring hours. ALso, it seemed most of the women there were either 1) obese 2) anorexic 3) over 40, & the atmosphere was very depressing. I was getting so anxious about going to the office for monitoring & dreading it so much, I knew I had to switch.
COrnell is like a factory & also has long waits, but I feel it's more sanitary, the people are friendlier, it's part of a hospital (it's not located in an office building like RMA, so if something goes wrong, you're in a real hospital). ALso, the waiting room is large & has big windows. Another negative is, if you work in midtown, Cornell is a pain to get to - it's all the way over on York & 70th, where there's no subway & tons of traffic. hope this helps. |
