Should I get a lap? Please help

Hi Everyone,

This may be a bit long but please bear with me, i really need advice. I started ttc just about 6 months ago. I just turned 26 and my husband is 28 years old. I was diagnosed with slight pcos, i don't have any physical symptoms or the polycystic ovaries but based on hormone imbalance and irregular ovulation i was diagnosed and put on metformin. I've had 3 clomid cycles but havent gotten pregnant have ovulated though. My HSG and my husbands SA was good and clear.

Now, I for a few months have been having heavy and painful periods. My back hurts a lot for a day before my period. The first day or 2 bowel movements can be painful. I am on another message board with non-endo people who said a lot of them have these symptons but no endo. They suggested i wrote here to some more info.

My RE doesn't think I need to worry because my ultrasounds, and HSG and all are fine. But, from what I know only a lap can diagnose endo..i have heard from people though that sometimes a lap can cause more harmt han good and can destroy parts of the ovary further imparining fertility. I'm not sure if I need to get one but at point does it become important to get one? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks so much!

You do have some endo symptoms, the painful periods, ect. Do you have any pain at other times of your cycle? I'm not trying to be nosy, but is intercourse painful for you? These are some other signs of endo. If you don't have these other symptoms,I don't think you have to rush into a lap after six months of TTC. You could probably wait another six months and see what happens, you're under 30.

Just for the record you are correct, these test cannot confirm an endo diagnosis. Only a lap can do that.

Give it a little longer... see what happens.

Good luck!

Thanks for your response. I think my doc is just looking in terms of fertility, so she seens no blockages and good uterus. Now, if my tubes are clear can endo still affect fertility?

Also, I don't have painful intercourse at all. My paps, ultrasounds, etc I don't feel any pain. I only feel pain during my period the first 2-3 days, mostly the first 2, heavy bleeding and painful bowels.

What other things should I look out for?

Yes...endometriosis can also affect egg quality and the implantation process.

Other things to look for are short cycles and spotting before your period starts. And of course and kind of pain during your cycle.

i have always had short cycles, when i first started getting my period my cycles were like 19 days apart

now at 26 they are between 23-30 days but i think that's because of pcos, i have mild pcos so thats when i have short cycles , i bleed but dont ovulate so i have anovulatory bleeding
