Switching from private to public...I'm scared
Well I just did it.... I just disenrolled my twins from their private school and am making the switch to public. I live in CA in the city and I'm scared!!! I am so afraid of making the wrong decision for them.. They will be starting second grade and while they were so so about their old school....I found it aweful on so many levels. It was very cold and unwelcoming to new families, the classrooms had 36 kids in them, there was only one class per grade so my two had to be together, the curiculum was not as broad as I hade hoped and I felt like I was paying a lot for very little. The only thing the school really offered was a buffer from the Ghetto factor that comes with living in a big city. yes it is not polically correct but it is what it is where I live.

Samba,
My twin boys are older, middle school and we are in southern California, but we disenrolled our boys' in June, and will be starting public school in the city where we live in a couple of weeks. Many of our reasons coincide with yours, and add to that a school that used to be very gentle, caring about each child. Maybe it is just the state of education today, but we felt that it just wasn't worth paying for what we were not getting. Good luck with your little ones......it is okay to be scared. Use the principal and the office staff....i.e. counselor if there is one.....the ones in our school have been wonderful to me and to our whole family. Margaret Anne |

Good luck! We're moving out of Calif due in part to crowding in the schools here. But I guess the private schools are crowded too, eh?
