    10dp5dt Possible Ectopic?

    Hi ladies. I am now 10dp5dt. I started spotting on Saturday ( 6dp) the spotting became heavy spotting and Sunday was similar to a light flow period. All of this seems like a miscarriage but my beta after 3 days of bleeding was a 68. RE said there was blood in my uterus and he wasn't hopeful but after he called with my beta (a day early) he seemed to think there was still a chance or it was an ectopic. I'm rather confused because I didn't think ectopic showed problems this early? Could it be? Along with bleeding, I've had fairly heavy cramping on and off just like AF cramps. I had another beta done today and now I'm anxiously waiting for the results. It's taking them a very long time to call back which is unusual so it's making me more nervous!

    Anyone have problems with an ectopic this early? It started 6dp5dt. I'm so scared if I'm having problems now, they won't be able to wait until one or both babies are visible on an ultrasound.

    Hi Tiffany,

    So sorry you are feeling confused. Bleeding can be totally normal in early pregnancy. I have noticed a lot of women who do IVF find they have a subchorionic hematoma (SCH) which usually clears up on its own and doesn't hurt the baby.

    The tell tale way to check for ectopic is via ultrasound..if your beta is above 1000 and a sac isn't visible, an ectopic preg could be the culprit. Your beta doubled, so that is a good sign. Do you have a history of ectopic pregs?

    Ectopics usually present with bleeding because hormone levels are low. Your initial value was 68 which is great, and more indicative of a viable pg than ectopic (IMHO)! I suspect the bleeding is other causes.

    My experience was textbook:
    * Ectopic - Natural conception, spotting 11dpo & 12dpo and Medium bleeding 12dpo & 13po, hCG <25, doubled, but not over 100 until 20dpo (again typical ectopic)
    * Viable pg - IVF, spotting 12dpo & 13dpo, hCG 115 (relief!), doubled, over 1,000 by 20dpo (light spotting until I stopped P4 supps)

    Congrats on your BFP, congrats that your hCG doubled! FX for you and your babe!

    Kim - I don't have any history with them. I've only had one other pregnancy (natural) with no complications.

    TTC- that makes me feel a little better.

    Thanks for your replies ladies. I've noticed a pattern over the last two days. RE said to monitor it but wasn't sure if it meant anything yet. When I wake up with a full bladder I bleed semi heavy. And I wake up with terrible cramping. After about 3:30 in the afternoon its down to nothing or very light spotting. Anytime my bladder is full I have a rush of blood. Sorry for the TMI. Any ideas?

    @Tiffany - It sounds like you'll have to play the waiting game, unfortunately. With my ectopic, HCG doubled reasonably at first but up around 500 the doubling slowed. I had to wait until it reached 1000 before an ultrasound confirmed it. Any severe cramping should result in a call to your doc.

    On the other hand (and this is what makes this game of IVF so fun....Not!!) is all could be fine.

    Fingers crossed!!!

    Hmmm...well I am NOT a doctor, but I wonder (ok this might sound crazy) if you do have a SCH and the full bladder causes pressure on the area which causes the "rush of bleeding"? I would ask your doc if they have any ideas. Minimally, they could do a scan to look for the SCH if there is one.

    Thanks for all your support ladies! I just wanted to update, we had our first ultrasound today at 5w2d and saw one tiny little sac....in the right spot! Still can't figure out the bleeding but I was relieved to know it's not ectopic. Thanks again ladies!
