    Need help with embryo donation...

    *success mentioned*

I've been around these boards a long time- since 2004 I've lurked on IUIs, IVFs, FETs.... but now I could use your help. After tons of treatments and more money than I can count, my husband and I have been blessed with 2 sons. We know how blessed we are! But we are longing for one more child. However, over time our fertility prognosis has worsened and we don't feel doing another ivf is a good idea. So we are looking into other options.

We are attracted to the idea of embryo adoption/donation for many reasons. I have no problem carrying a child (just have problems making one!). But all the places I've called to inquire- I've been told no- because I have children. Will it be possible for me to find embryos?

Any advice would be more than welcomed!

I think places like snowflakes.org where you contact private couples looking to personally pick the couple who gets their embryos would be your best bet if the clinics are turning you down.

You can also go to the PVED.ORG boards, where they have an embryo adoption thread on the discussion forum. Good luck!

My wife (just married her on June 22!) and I had no luck finding embryo donation places because every place we looked wouldn't consider a lesbian couple. Hey! We can have infertility issues too!

We ended up finding out about a frozen egg bank. That blessed service plus a sperm bank and we'll have at least two good quality embryos. If you find a place where you can be the recipient of donated embryos, that might save you some money but we overall felt better about receiving donations of both egg and sperm.

The egg and sperm both come from really young healthy people - no issues that can come from advanced maternal age eggs.

Egg and sperm donor both went through rigorous checks to screen out anyone with health issues or with history of family health issues.

We could choose people who resembled us physically and we could even choose a sperm donor who has personality traits we admired. The information on the sperm donor was more extensive than on the egg donor. IDK why.

Maybe most significantly for us, the embryos we use will be the best of the bunch. We were concerned about accepting a donated embryo because we know that when people do IVF, the best of the embryos get transferred first. The ones remaining for donation have a greater chance of being of lesser quality and, therefore, less likely to implant and develop. My wife and I have a very limited time frame for conception so we wanted to have the best chance possible.

Accepting both donated eggs and donated sperm to make our own embryos seemed like the right option for us.

rdyforbaby: Firstly thank you for sharing your story and CONGRATULATIONS on your wedding!! When will our government get their heads out of their collective &^%$@ and legalize marriage for everyone?? Yeesh.
Your story about the frozen egg bank that you found is compelling. Would you consider sharing the name of that place with Aidens mom? you can Private message on these boards too. Good luck with your FT journey. Keep us posted!! Aidensmom: Don't be deterred by the reality that you have two already....just keep looking. There's an emby out there with your name on it. Would you consider adoption? All positive thoughts your way.

WhitneyAtFertilityAuthority: I don't mind at all!

We used MyEggBank.com of our egg donor and XYtex.com for our sperm donor.

Our RE works with a financing company called CapexMD to cover the financial part. We took out a loan to cover the egg expenses and the medical expenses. We'll pay it off over time. It's about the amount that a moderate car would be. So we have one less car over the course of our lives. Okay. I can cope with that.

Now, how I'll feel about paying it off if this doesn't work... I don't know about that. My DW just tells me that we'll at least know we tried everything in our power to have a baby of our own and that's worth a whole lot.
