What happens to our money if the donor's cycle is canceled?!
The agency I’m about to choose gives us a new donor free of charge if the donor is not approved for a cycle for some reason or backs out; but the contract says, there is a guarantee if the cycle is ended prior to the donor starting meds.
What happens to our money if the cycle is canceled for a medical reason after the donor has already started the cycle? Would we be re-matched if the donor didn’t stimulate well or even was over stimulated? I’m not asking for a pregnancy guarantee, but I need to know that our money will get us to a transfer! Anyone have insight regarding my concerns? I emailed the agency, but have not heard back yet. I’d just like to know what I can ask for and expect to get! Thanks. -Victoria

Victoria -
There is no standard. It just depends how your contract is written with your agency and your donor. I used a donor from my clinic, and my clinic provided a refund of all funds that had not yet been spent (so, donor fee would be refunded, any medical fees that hadn't been applied yet - e.g. retrieval costs, monitoring, etc.). It was a pretty good deal. There is no guarantee about getting to transfer, but your contract should contemplate what happens up through retrieval. Again, its a case by case thing. Each agency and clinic is different. FWIW - We had a lawyer review our contract. |

I'm surprised that they haven't gone over all of that with you already.
We had a donor who went all the way up to just before retrieval and the cycle was cancelled. She just didn't produce very many eggs. We had to pay the first of 3 sets of money to the donor, for all the drugs she used, the preliminary tests and doctor visits. So, basically we had to pay for all treatment that was done up to that point. It was about $8,000.
