Starting to consider DE

Hello everyone, I am a 39 year old woman with premature ovarian failure. My FSH is 33 and my anti-mullerian hormone is virtually non-detectable, so my doctor has advised me that having a baby with my own eggs is almost impossible to happen.

I've been pretty open to the idea of donor eggs all along, simply because I don't think that my genes are all that great! They're acceptable, but nothing that I don't think the future world can live without. My mom had reproductive cancer and eventually died of breast cancer, I seem to be inheriting her same problems, she also had high blood pressure and heart disease, my father has melanoma, and we also have diabetes and mental illness in our family. Now it's up to my husband to think about it for awhile, but in the meantime, I'd like to get a better sense of the process and costs involved.

I've been researching and it seems that the best idea financially is to find a program that has the refund option for DE-IVF cycles. The only one I ever see mentioned is Shady Grove in the DC area. I'm in Central Florida, so that's not a great option for me. Are there any that are closer, or is that one worth flying to?

Also, it seems like some clinics have their own donor egg program? Do you think it is advisable to use the clinic's source or a national agency? Are there any good agencies in Florida?

Regarding the cost of donor eggs, it seems like most agencies run about $10,000, but I can't tell if that is including the cost of the stim drugs. How much money should I really expect to pay to do a DE-IVF cycle?

Thanks to everyone. If these questions are answered in other responses, please feel free to link instead of typing it all out

Maggie

I've done a little bit more researching since my first post and it seems as if other clinics offer only three attempts for their shared risk program. Is this pretty accurate?

Hi Altamags- I'm in my 2ww from DE/IVF. My clinic has an in house donor pool that we used. I'm like you and wasn't so concerned with a genetic connection from me as long as I get to carry the child. I'm 43 and though my FSH and AMH were both very good we didn't have any luck after 5 IUIs so I didn't have a lot of hope doing IVF with my eggs and I wanted the best odds for the money since we are self pay. From what I've read here going through an agency adds several thousand dollars in fees so I was happy that my RE had a donor pool. As far as shared risk I don't have any information for you other than there are a lot of SG gals around. My cycle was 18K which included everything but my meds(I was surprised my Rx insurance has helped with these) and freezing any extra embryos which was 1k.

There is a thread that was moved to the communities boards because it was getting long that you may visit Hard to Wait - Group
to ask questions also. The ladies there are a wealth of info and very supportive. Also we have a small group on this board under Donor Egg week of 8/10/2009 (we have been asked to change the date and start a new thread occasionally) Please join us there too!

Hopeful, can I ask what clinic you use? SC is close enough for me to drive, and would be easier to do as an out-of-town patient. Also - when you say your clinic has a donor pool, do you get to select the egg donor? Or are your matched by the clinic?
