African American Sperm donors
My husband hasn't even agree to go down the donor route yet but, I wanted to ask if anyone has used African American sperm and how hard was it to find a match? I looked on a couple of websites at profiles and there seemed to be only 2 or 3 African American donors? Is this true with all sperm banks. I would like to look at more than 2 or 3!

Hi,
I have used donor sperm "African American". I used Cryobank CAlifornia, which is the 1 my clinic recommended. It was difficult at 1st b/c "african american", refers to just black, no combinations of other races. But Blacks have many mixtures. Whether parents, grandparents or even great grandparents. If you have a drop of any other ethnicity, you are no longer considered african american in the cryobanks but rather, "other". so read about all the available sperm and ethnic descriptions in the "other" category and you will find that many in the "other" category are african american as well. Its funny that most of us African Americans are not pure black, regardless of our skin tone. So according to the cryobanks, many of us have no strict race description. I guest im an "other" and dh is an "other" too. dh's grandmother was part native american, therefore he is an other and i've got french and spanish with great grandparents so i'm also an "other". lol. |

I have not looked for a sperm donor, but I am looking for an full AA or 3/4AA egg donor and I can tell you that I'm having a very hard time. I just assumed that it would be easier to find a sperm donor since there are so many (compared to egg donors). Good luck with all!

What about reproductive resources here in our state. It's not far from TX. You might have to try a few banks and look at the limited donors they have to find the right one. www.reproductiveresources.com
