Donor Sperm, At home Inseminations, Lots o questions!

Hi!

My name is Jennifer and my husabnd and I have been trying to get pregnant for about 3 years. We have done 2 IUI's with no success and are going down the foster to adopt path. My husband has male factor, the RE stated he only wanted to do 2 IUI's and proceed with IVF if that fails. I dont want to go down IVF because of the cost its about 10,000 here, insurance doesnt cover anything. But my husband and I have been talking about doing donor sperm to do an at home IUI. The problem is I have no idea what I am doing or how to do it or where to go.

I have researched a couple cryobanks, I think we have chosen California Cryobank to be our choice and have narrowed it down to a few donors. But I dont know where to go from here, has anyone ever done this and acheived a pregnancy?

Jenn - a lot of women have done home ICI, and been successful. In fact, one helpful Board "Concieving through Donors" is on baby center . com (no spaces). There are bunch of helpful women there. We're male factor, too. And, no, most don't have IF Insurance.

ICI isn't too difficult at-home. IUI is better done with a doctor or midwife. Personally, I've done 6 cycles of DIUI at an OBGYN, since they charge only $125/insem.

I've been using Midwest Sperm Bank, in Chicago. I might be switching to International Cyrogenics, in Detroit, this cycle. What made you choose California?

My husband and I have heard alot of good things about the california clinic. I have been on a website called Home inseminations that has helped me find clinics. I also looked into NW cryobank. Another reason I like the calFirst off because they are one of the places that will ship directly to your home for us to do an at home insemination. I also contacted our RE to receive the paperwork on their pricing. The problem is it costs 326 per insemination plus the cost of the donor sperm, so it is something we need to ensure we want before we do. The reason we thought about doing an at home inseminiation is because I have had a bunch of tests: blood tests; HSG: and they have all been good when we did our IUI we did an unmedicated and I had 4 good eggs on one and 3 on the other. SO we thought we might be able to do this without using the doctor.
