At home inseminations with frozen donor sperm

We are going to try it.

A little back story on us:
I have an 8 yo DD from my previous marriage. After two years TTC on our own (1 year just letting it happen, 1 year actively charting/timing) we found out DH is totally sterile and has non-obstructive azoospermia. This crushed us. We've spent the past year thinking about all the options, getting a second opinion on his condition (just as bad as the first) and trying to come to terms with his loss of a biological child. We're recently renewed with the idea of doing at home inseminations with donor sperm from NW Cryobank.

We don't want to sink a bunch of money into it. Eliminating the doc saves us over $1000 a cycle giving us more cycles to try. I've read and researched statistics and supposedly doing an office IUI after the sperm has been washed only increases the chance of pregnancy around 3-5%. Our RE agrees that we can try for 3-6 cycles at home since I have had a healthy pregnancy before and should be capable of getting pregnant with the presence of sperm.

Has anyone else here gone this route or considered it?

Hi! I'm using donor sperm from NW Cyrobank. Since I'm on a medicated cycle and have to be monitored, I'm letting my RE do the IUI. (Doesn't cost me anything for my RE to do it, because we go to a military hospital.) But if I wasn't on any meds, then I would do at-home insemination. Since you have had a child, then I would definetly do at-home insemination. I wish you the best of luck!!

Are you thinking of doing IUI or ICI? IUI=20% success vs. ICI=10% success

IUI at home can be tricky (and harmful) if you don't have training. I've done 5 unmedicated cycles with DS and IUI. It's only $125 at my OBGYN, where nurses do it. Not bad, with DS @ $250 through MW.

Just an idea: check prices with your local OBGYN or midwife.
