Heading down the DE path...
Hi gals,
I think it's likely we will try donor eggs for our next IVF cycle. I have no idea how the timing works, and when we should start the process with the RE. I imagine it's going to take some time to find a donor, have testing done and legal docs drawn up, and get the egg production up and running. Realistically, how many months is it going to be before we do a transfer, once you factor everything in? Because of work/travel, the earliest we could do another cycle is December or January. But if it's going to take more than a few months to get on track, I feel like we should get the process started now. Thanks in advance for sharing your insights! We went through an agency, so they already had the legal docs and testing done. It took us a few weeks to find our donor.
We only had to wait long enough to synchronize our cycles. I think you would be wise to start the process now... at least finding the donor and getting the schedule set up with your RE. Good luck to you!!! DE was the answer to our prayers and I hope it is for you as well. Crystal |

Blossomo - The extent of the testing can vary, especially if you invest in shared risk cycles where you get a full refund if unsuccessful after a set # of fresh/frozen cycles. Else, it doesn't take too long, but I agree with Chrystal, start the process now.
I am in a shared risk package b/c we didn't want the stress of losing money and not having enough to do it a 2nd time. Good thing, because my donor cycle just got cancelled. If you cycled recently, you may not have to do much testing, but they will still likely want to do a mock cycle / lining check before your real cycle. My recent cycle was a shared donor cycle and we reserved our donor June 24, the 2nd couple signed on two weeks later and it end of July before synch started and donor didn't start stims until Aug 15th. Our ET would have been today. Either our donor (age 22) didn't respond or didn't take her meds. Hope that helps with the time line a little. Feel free to join the HARD TO WAIT Thread where there are quite of few of us DE cycling, or contemplating DE. Very supportive and great place to learn and ask questions. Good Luck! Rhonda

Hi Blossomo,
Glad to see you posting on this board. I think you will find the DE board useful w/ regards to any DE-related questions you may have. The timing is dependant on many factors: how long it takes to find a suitable donor, when your donor is available (they have to be flexible to go to doctor appts, orientations (if it is their first donor cycle)), medical testing, your doctor's schedule, etc. Therefore, I think that it is good to start the process asap to get the ball rolling. For us, we found a donor in January, and the retrieval and transfer was done in late July. Keep us up to date on your progress and good luck! lulu |

You could get it all done in three months; I've seen it happen. We used two agencies and got zip; all their candidates fell through at one level of testing or another... we finally went through our RE and it was done in no time comparatively.
It was cheaper going through the RE... agencies can get very expensive and frankly, I would never used one again if I had to... shady ethics at best and you don't know if what they tell you is just BS or not. Others will swear by them. Start the process with your RE asap to get the logistics of it all and to see if they'll work with agencies or not, or if they have their own pool of ED etc. It seems complicated but it really isn't... it's just overwhelming at first because it is a very emotional journey. Good luck, CS |
