What would you do? DE cycle

WE have a 22 egg donor, first cycle. On Tuesday she had 11 eggs ranging from 5mm to 15mm. Today only half those eggs kept growing. Her estrogen went up. So they gave us the option to proceed or cancel.

6 eggs are better than none!!! But that is a lot of money to spend on 6 eggs.

But if we cancel then what? I just spent 3 months on lupron for my endo preparing for this cycle. And I am not willing to do it again.

tigerest,

At my clinic, I still have to pay the donor and the cycle once retrieval is done. It doesn't matter how many eggs retrieved and how many embryos make it to the next day. My 2nd donor produced 10 eggs and only 5 survived day 3. I had to go through the cycle knowing I was spending $32K for a pretty much guaranteed BFN! It was awful. Even though she was 24, she did not produce healthy eggs.

If you don't have to pay for cancelling, I would cancel the cycle.

Good luck!

HiTiger--I am new to the Donor avenue...sicne i am in that transition phase myself right now...and it will be our next cycle.

I think you meant to say "follicles" instead of eggs. The eggs are found in the follicle, and when it's time for egg retrieval, they remove the eggs from their follicles. Sorry hon, I am sure you knew this, I was just clarifying.

if you cancel, can you put the money towards a new cycle??? Maybe you could find another donor all together, that makes alot more follicles??? Also too, sometimes their isn't in egg in the follicle at the time of retrieval, and you said the sizes vary from 5-15...they are far apart. I'm so sorry, it is so stressful, esp where DE costs so much money!!!! It doens't seem right.

Was the donor you chose a proven donor?? Or was this her first cycle??? WOw, you would think a woman that age would have had a great response.

I am so sorry for your dilemma. As they always say too, it just takes 1 good egg!!!! I understand and sympathize with your dissapoinment. Maybe all 6 will fertilize beuatifully hon, and you'll have some to freeze after all???? HAng in there. What advice does your RE say??? What does he think would be the best option for you, knowing this is your first DE cycle?? I hope he can give you some guidance. Good luck!! I feel for you. Hugs!!!

Diddy- I remeber you from posting on my other board. Have you ever had your uterus checked out??? I can't beleive you have gone through so many donor cycles, and they havn't taken, that is very shocking, and surprising. I know that their is still not 100% guarreentee with donor, but it should bring up your chances over 60% if everything looks good etc..My RE said, as long as your uterus is in good shape, and looks healthy, you should have a high success rate. Have you ever had it checked out??? You mentioned your still with your RE, after 5 failed cycles???I think I would have gotten a 2nd opinion. I am so sorry for what your going through, and wish your RE could have helped you a long time ago, maybe after your 2nd failed cycle..to why this isn't working. Have you ever had a lap, or a hysterscopy so they can view your uterus, and make sure that you dojn't have any scar tissue, etc??? Make sure it's okay?? I am s sorry!!!! GL to you!!!!

child. ment...

Hi there,

Just wanted to pop in here, We used an egg donor and she only made us four viable eggs. All four fertilized, we reimplanted two and the other two did not make it to freeze. However, today I am the proud mommy of beautiful 5week old twin girls

I understand that after spending all this time and money, you want to hear a huge number of follies, but really truly it is the quality of the eggs that matter, not the quantity!

Good luck to you!

I would keep going, because you just never know how many eggs will be retrieved from those follices!! You could end up with a few more eggs than they can see follicles!!

Besides, even with "only 6", (if that's how many you get), you can still be successful!! I was successful on a 5 egg retrieved cycle! And our donor had been proven with previous cycles giving her couples between 18-22 eggs!!

Let us know what you decide to do!!
