thepetite1- answers to couple of your questions

You asked in another post how many cycles I did before being successful & how we financed our cycles. We did 4 cycles altogether, with the first 2 being unsuccessful. For our 1st cycle, we had saved some money & the rest went on a credit card that had 0 interest for 12 months. Our 2nd cycle, we used our income tax refund (we had a big refund that year from our previous year with our cycle) & the rest we used when we refinanced our house. The last 2 were done with tax refunds, saved money & credit cards that had 0% interest for 12 months.

Good luck to you!!

didy- no, we used 2 different donors for the cycles.

thepetite1, you can absolutely claim your cycle on your taxes!! You may even be able to file an amendment. I would talk with someone who knows about taxes to see if you can still claim them. You just need to have receipts for things to back it up, but that shouldn't be a problem. You can claim mileage to & from your RE appointments, if you're traveling out of state- you can claim airfare, hotel. You can claim all of your meds, your b/w & u/s that isn't covered by your insurance. You can definitely claim all the money that you're putting out for your cycles. Check into whether or not it's too late to amend your taxes from this year!! The worst they can say is that it's too late- the best would be that you could gather your info & submit it & get some extra money back!!! Then, you can claim ANY other medical expenses that you've incurred last year, including dentists, or other doctor things, like co-pays, medications for sickness, etc. You just have to have spent more than 7.5% of your Gross Adjusted Income & then the rest you can claim!!!!

Good luck!

Yes it's True! Not just IVF, but all medical expenses which total over 7.5% of your ADJUSTED gross income....scripts, over the counter meds, eye glasses, dentist, out of pocket and co pays.... follow the IRS link below and you can read all the details!

Basicly you take 7.5 of your ADJUSTED gross income and subtract that from your total med expenses and that is what you can claim. If 7.5% of my adjusted gross is 10,000 and my expenses were 25,000, I can write off 15,000. Every little bit helps, right??

Quote from site:
You may deduct only the amount by which your total medical care expenses for the year exceed 7.5% of your adjusted gross income. You do this calculation on Form 1040 Schedule A in computing the amount deductible.
