Hi there!
New to the boards, but after reading more than a handful of posts, this seems like a great place to be--so caring and supportive! Here's a little about me... When I was pg with my son (born 05.01.06), I tested positive as a CF carrier. I was no longer involved my son's biological father--he later relinquished all parental rights--and had married a wonderful man (my husband!) when I was 4 months pregnant. My son's biological father is not a CF carrier. On a whim, my husband decided to get tested as we wanted a ton of children. My husband *is* a CF carrier. That said, we did a lot of thinking and a lot of research--we met with genetic counselors and fertility specialists. When our son was just over two months old, we decided to adopt. Our daughter was born in Guatemala on 03.14.07, and was welcomed home on 12.14.07--exactly nine months after she was born. And now...well, now we want to try for baby three. I love adoption. LOVE it. And to be honest, if we could afford it, we'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. However, we have massive loans from our daughter's adoption, so we decided that we want to try for another pregnancy--with all little medical intervention preconception as humanly possible. That said, I go next month for my yearly, and I'm going to discuss this topic with my PCP. We've already set the ball rolling and plan to use Midwest Sperm Bank for a home insemination. I'm nervous and hopeful. I should add, though, that my son was a surprise. I had been married once before and tried with my now ex-h for over a year to get pregnant with no success, so I'm unsure as to how easily this will happen for me the second time around. We're only planning six months of attempts, and then--that's that. If it's meant to be in that time, it will be. I know this. Two issues: Medical--forgive my ignorance on this topic, but how difficult is it to obtain a script for Clomid from your PCP? One of the more arrogant fertility MDs we met with (who actually told us adoption was a WASTE OF MONEY, if you can believe that!) said that a "good PCP" would never prescribe Clomid but would instead offer a referral. I'm sure it differs from MD to MD, but I was curious to see individual experiences on this front. Personal--it's so nice to be here! Our reproductive life became pretty much everyone's business once we outed the news about the positive CF tests. We've told next to no one about our intentions, as we're hoping to have a beautiful surprise to share if we do, in fact, get pg. I know--for a fact--that *many* of our friends and family would be shocked (borderline appalled, even) to find out we're trying a home insemination instead of going to a doctor. Thankfully, it takes a lot to rattle my cage. ![]() Anyway, sorry my first post was so long--I'm just happy to be here, that's all. C.
