New here - first ED in november
Hi Girls,
first - sorry for my helpless english, I write to you from Germany I am 43 and will have my first transfer with Egg donation on November 8th. I am sooo excited and nervous, perhaps its my last chance. As the US are fare further than Europe in ED, may I have some questions?? Do you take anything before transfer except oh progesterone? Could you tell me more about the medication in the whole cycle in US? I feel I need so much more to know and to optimize everything.... Thank you all in advance and have a nice day!!! Princess

Hi Princess!
I am doing my first ED cycle in November, too, and will probably have a transfer about 2 weeks after yours! My clinic is putting me on estrogen pills and patches to help me build a good uterine lining. Progesterone injections (ouch!) will start at the time of egg retrieval and continue to the pregnancy test and, if the test is positive, may continue through the first trimester. My donor (a relative) will take birth control pills for a few weeks, then lupron, then will be stimulated with a combination of FSH & LH. I am excited for you and hope you get your BFP!!!!!! Best, Kat |

Hi Kat!
It is so exciting!!!!! I am totally nervous and I am thinkung the whole day about my treatment and if everything will go positive!! What is a BFP??? Sounds that your treatment is nearly the same to mine. What does your RE recommands for bedrest? Do they say anything about travelling via plane after transfer? For a little bit of calming down we would like to travel somewhere warm after transfer. Wish you all the best and looking forward to your answer! Hugs Princess |

Hi Princess --
A BFP is a "Big Fat Positive" result for your pregnancy test. From what I hear, rest is recommended for about 2 days after a 5-day embryo transfer; implantation should take place during that time. There is no real medical reason for all that rest, but they recommend it anyway just to be safe. After the 48 hours they say it should be okay to fly. Where do you think you might go for your post-transfer vacation? My transfer will be in Miami, Florida, and then I will come home to NY... so I'll be starting out start out someplace warm and coming back to someplace cold. I too am totally obsessed with my upcoming cycle! I really need to break away and get some work done! Hugs to you, too! Best, Kat |

oh - okay
than I hope we will have have this BFP in November!!!!!!!!!We do the ED in the Czech Republic (forbitten in Germany ). First I thought to fly straightly to Miami because of the fine weather (and also I love to shop in these Miami malls.....very good amusement ) But the flight takes 8 hours and perhaps that is too much for my little baby inside, don`t wanna risk anything. So we are thinking about the Canary Islands, just a 4-hours-flight away. But I would definitely prefer Miami, also if there is a BFP I could go to one of the Fertility Clinics there for a check. Hmmmm.Don`t you have got clinics in NY? How many days after transfer will you fly? Princess

Princess,
I'm doing an out of town cycle too. I live in Atlanta, but the donor lives in the Washington DC area. My first cycle was canceled because my donor was not responding well to the meds. Her previous cycle resulted in 12 eggs, 7 day 5 embryos and a twin pregnancy....go figure!?!! But, here's the plan once we line up another donor - I go on birth control pills after my period...then lupron if needed while I'm trying to match with the donor...then I start on Estrace pills until the transfer...after the transfer they recommend I spend 24 hours on bedrest before flying back to Atlanta - I believe that after transfer I begin the progestrone shots .... I'm monitored at home before and after by my local RE. Hope to have a new donor soon and to join everyone in Nov. KW |

Hi Princess! Guten morgen! (that's almost all the German I know!)
It would be such a coincidence if we were both in Miami! But I understand and agree, probably an 8-hour flight is a bit much, not only for your little embryo(s) but also maybe for you, given all the stress and worry that comes with doing IVF, even with donor eggs. The Canary Islands sound beautiful! Have you been there before? I have heard about many women going to Czech Republic for IVF -- apparently it's very affordable. Are you coordinating your cycle with another clinic at home in Germany? Of course we have excellent clinics in NY! The reason I'm going to Miami is that my cousin, who is donating the eggs, lives there. She has a small child and it would have been very difficult for her to coordinate two trips up to NY for her screening, monitoring, and transfer. She will have to go through much than I will have to go through in terms of medical appointments, etc. And I have a very flexible schedule. It just makes more sense for me to go there for ER & ET. If the cycle is successful, we will do a day-5 transfer, and then I will stay in Miami for 2 days before flying. If this cycle works, this will be our first child, after 3IUIs and 3 IVFs with my own eggs. How about you princess? Have you been trying for along time? Do you have children already? By the way, there is a thread on this board for women doing donor egg cycles in November. You're welcome to join. There are three of us so far: you would be #4 -- http://www3.fertilethoughts.com/foru...d.php?t=539632 Hi knitwit! Kat Last edited by hoping2bmamaKat; 10-10-2007 at 04:16 AM. |

Hi Knitwit,
I keep my fingers crossed that everything will end positive this time for you!! I have my actuel donor fixed, she is now startung the stimulation and I hope she will do well. Here in Europe they don`t stimulate the donors so high, so we can expect about 6-7 eggs - not that much. But - one will fit if it is the right one!!! Hugs Princess |

Hi Kat!! Guten Tag!
The canary islands are not that bad, I was there 3 years ago at Lanzarote, this time perhaps to Gran Canaria. Hm, I am feary about the long flying time and the effects to my baby not to me. For me it would be comfortable at all. And because I have heard of very good fertility clinics there this would be an advantage. When i got the BFP i could visit them and ask for assistance with progesterone shots and so on....we are still thinking about We had 5 IUIs and one ICSI in february. The ICSI was totally unsuccessful, only two eggs with a very high dose of puregon and no one was fertilized - no transfer. I was so shocked! And also this will be my first one with 43....hope that will be ok for my kid! Yes, I have the luck that my doc here in germany is willing to assist, even if it is forbitten for him - very strange laws here. He will make the ultrasounds for the lining and so on. We have to decide if 3- or 5-day-transfer. Is 5-day normal in the US? Everybody tells everything else: one says for the embryo it is better in the natural enviroment of the human body, others say you can better select the good ones on day 5. So - Princess |

Hello ladies!
Well, I passed my mammogram! WHEW AND YAY! In just 2 weeks I will go to Miami to complete my preliminary tests (psych interview, hysteroscopy, and sperm analysis). Right now I'm waiting on my period (FYI Princess, sometimes we call it "Aunt Flo" or "AF"), which is due any day now, and I will start BCPs on the third day of my cycle. In about three weeks my cousin will be about ready to start stims! Hi Princess -- I think that 3-day vs. 5-day depends on the clinic, mainly. Some have labs that focus on taking care of embryos up to day 6, while others may have less experience going beyond day 3. The clinic I will be going to generally transfers 2 fresh 5-day blastocysts, 3 frozen -- thus they have a high pregnancy rate and a low incidence of multiple births. I think if the embies don't look like they are doing well, or if there are only a few, many clinics go ahead and transfer them in day 3 and hope for the best. It's great tehat your doctor os helpig you get ready for the DE cycle despite the regulations forbidding it. I'm sorry the IUIs and the ICSI did not work out. Are you choosing your donor or is the clinic choosing for you? Hi Knitwit! Your protocol sounds just like mine. Any news on a new donor yet? Best, Kat |
