Donor sperm - sperm and motility counts

For those using donor sperm, what were the #'s post wash?

My last DIUI I had 39.5mil but only 55% motility which drew a red flag in my mind. My RE said it's below average!
Geez, we don't pay good money to get average or below average quality, right?

Since I didn't know the motility of any other DIUI I've done in the past, out of curiosity I contacted the cryobank to get those #'s.

Turns out that when I did get pg in 2005 it very well might have been because those were the highest #'s the donor has provided me.
All the units I've received this year have been at least 25% worse than 2005.
Could this be why I haven't gotten pg?
I'm really wondering because I had a perfect cycle last month, and nada.

They say that frozen sperm doesn't have a shelf life so either that's false or the donor is getting too old to do this.
Heart breaking since this is the donor I have a 2yr from and we so badly wanted a sibling for him.

59 million, 68% motility-the cryobank guarantess a certain count after thawing-I don't know about post wash. We used 4 of these sperm for IVF-ICSI-I have bought 2 more vials from the same donor for my upcoming IUI. The rest of this sample was re-frozen, so no guarantees on it, but I'll let you know the counts of this one (after thawing twice) and of the other vial or 2 that they use. I'm doing back to back. I thought this count and motility were good-better than my DHs-count of 2000, 50% motility.

Best of luck, Bebe

No one else has their DS counts and motility? Oh well, I was just curious too-Fetch, my cryobank has a guarantee of at least 25mil/ml and at least 30% motility. Just looked it up today on Fairfax, so my guy is doing pretty good-can you ask for a diff. batch and then get reimbursed for this one that's waaay low. I suppose it depends on where you purchased it from.

I'm not sure what the motility was for my last 2 IUI's, but my RE did tell me what the actual counts were. For the first one it was 12.9 mil and for this one it was 13.3 (or something close) He said they were both good counts, anything over 10mil is supposed to be plenty. I will have to ask about the motility, that didn't really occur to me... These are all post wash, post thaw #'s...

Unfortunately I can't remember what my DS counts were. However as others have mentioned, most cryobanks guarantee a certain post thaw count. I once did get a sub-par specimen. I had to print out a form from the cryobank and have the sperm person at the lab in my RE's office fill it out and send it in and I received a full refund.

As for not getting pg despite a "perfect cycle", remember IUI only has about at 15-20% success rate each month. And each month is a different cycle, so it's not additive. For us, having children w/ the same donor is very important. We spent a small fortune in sperm to assure this would happen. If we were down to our last vials (our donor no longer has anything available), I would consider IVF even if you're not at the IVF stage as it will give you better chances versus IUI (we've gone through 3 IVFs so it's kind of a mute point for us). It depends on how important the genetics are b/w siblings to you. For some folks, it's a non-issue, for others it's really important.

My #s below were post wash too and I just looked online and my donor now has a reported pregnancy-woohoo-I can see why with those counts. He was just released in May 2007, so someone must have gotten preggo right away, made it past the first trimester and reported the pg. Lucky them.

don't they test donor sperm that is frozen to see the motility after thaw?

Fetch, as promised:
post wash(so they're concentrated)
1st IUI:56mill/ml w/ 58% motility
2nd IUI:75mill/ml with 68% motility

Clinic said these were amazing counts for frozen sperm, so maybe not typical-we actually just got lucky on choosing our donor.

My specimens were always at least 80% motile after thaw and wash. I usually had 35% forward progression sperm in each sample. My counts ranged from 3 million to 17 million (10 vials). I got pregnant with triplets with the vial that only had 3 million in it. Just goes to show that timing is everything!
