FYI... egg donor embryos

I contacted the ED agency that matched us with the ED and the director said she was going through her papers and found our picture and put it up on her wall. I told her we were complete with our family with all that we had been through with surrogacy and with the hurricane and all. I told her we wanted to donate our embryos.

The director said we need to inform the ED if we would like to donate the embryos made from her eggs and DH's and the ED has to sign a release form. The director said it's very simple. She suggested contacting the Dr. who did the ER and the transfer to SM and seeing if there were couples in need. Sounds like are couples in need but there is a lot of anonymity with regards to the ED.

From the Drs. viewpoint the recipeient couples just has certain info about the ED and then the information we chose to give the recipeient couple is much more open and we could chose the couple. I was hoping everyone could share information about each other... one big happy family... but it doesn't work that way.

It is wonderful that you are donating your embryos. If the FET we are about to do doesnt work I am going to approach DH about doing a donor embryo cycle. I dont know if I should mention it now or wait to see how this FET goes. Our FET is scheduled for Nov 6th.

I'm surprised that they're having you inform the ED. The disposition of our embryos was entirely up to us as the ED had waived all rights for notification of any kind regarding the eggs she donated. It's nice of you to do though.

Well they are "our" embryos but the ED donated to "us" and for another couple to use them recquire her consent I think or some sort of release that "frees her" from any connection or whatever. Also you can't reveal the ED's medical information as that is personal so maybe it's the ED' signing a consent to release info about her... I don't know. It's all legal mumbo jumbo. We are going by the book and the director of the ED agency said we do need to get some sort of release form from the ED. I am gonna call our ED just to see. I know she wouldn't mind.

What it might be is that now by federal law the embryos can't be donated without even further STD testing than what is done standard practice. Our clinic does the b/w on all its egg donors now as a matter of course, but I imagine 2-3 year old embryos probably didn't have/require that testing.
So maybe they need the donor's blood.

But if they aren't asking for Dh's blood, maybe not.

Do you know what kind of info the recipient family gets on you? We might be looking into Dembie next year if not prego.

I would want the recipient family to have as much info as possable!!! And likewise I would want to know as much about them TOO! If the recipient couple can't have all the info legally on the donor like medical info since it's private I would just give them general information verbally about the ED. I would give them physical characteristics and educational background and talents and what not about the ED. I would let them know about DH's family medical history, his educational background, talents, etc... and I would surely give them pictures of us all. But you know DH's genetics have overpowered everything. Both boys look like him... DS #1 very little like me..... and DS #2 very little like the donor.... except his is really smart and athletic and musically inclined.

I thought I'd barge in here if you don't mind.

We did 2 donor FETs last year and are getting ready to do another. Apparently, the FDA is more involved this year than last. They require a bunch of b/w from both my hubby and me even though we had the tests done last year. When I asked for a schedule, the RE's FET coordinator told me that they can't schedule until all the results are in. The FDA has done surprise visits to their office to check their procedures for compliance. It's really amazing.

And in other news, as a donor embryo recipient, I appreciate having complete medical history on the biological parents. However, one of the donor embryo profiles we reviewed was "very" complete and maybe "too" complete that it scared us off. I am not easily scared of medical histories. (PMessage me and I can specify details.) I'd think that as donors you would want someone to choose your embryos to give them life. I feel sad about the embryos that have an extensive history as I believe they have been waiting for a recipient for at least a year.

We are actually choosing a donor whose health history is "unknown" over the one that is "too" complete. These are just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

I hope my comments are helpful. Best wishes!
Nancy
