Snowflakes.... question...

someone mentionned this agency before. I was wondering do you need to sign on with them and pay a fee BEFORE you find another couple to donate your frozen embryos to? I would hate to sign on and not find the perfect couple. I want to also ask the ED if she donated for other couples that did not complete their family or did not have success and if they would want the embryos. I am pretty sure she did donate but I hate asking such a personal question. What would you do? Also she jokingly said that she is in carer mode and has a BF and if she waits too long she might need them. I think it was all in jest but if I had my choice it would be to donate to her first, then to a couple that she had donate to, then to a couple of our choice through an agency like Snowflakes. I just don't think I want to even try to transfer even one to me. Our family is complete. Advice?

I wouldn't think as the DONOR of the embryos you'd have to pay anything!!!! I think it's wonderful what you're considering though. Is there anyone you've "met" over the years here on FT that are looking? Just a thought.

Good luck in your search for the perfect couple!

If your concern is what kind of screening the facilitating organization will perform on recipients for your donated embryos, you can find out.
I think Snowflakes is strictly a Christian organization, and may screen recipients on that basis... you can probably find out by calling or checking their web site.
Many clinics also facilitate embryo donation. On the US CDC stat site, each clinic reports whether or not they offer embryo donation, so you could check with clinics near you and see what kind of screening they offer.
Hope that's helpful.

Oh so you don't pay anything? Do the recipient couples pay anything? I guess you wouldn't pay because that would be considering baby selling! I thought there might be some charge for their efforts to match you up with another couples or administrative costs or legal costs. I have not met anyone on FT except one person who already has 3 children. I would want the couple to not be in the South or too near me but I would want to know all about them. I would not like a clinic donation because clinics don't usually give recipients much info. I want this to be like an adoptin of sorts. These are my babies!!!

I would assume that if you pay anything it is probably a nominal administrative fee, and that the adoptive parents would pay any costs associated with the transfer, maybe for cryopreservation as well. But I'm just speculating.

Snowflakes charges an $8000 agency fee. This does not cover any medical expenses. They meds and transfer would be an extra fee. Personally I find this fee outragous.

MAV,

You could also check into Embryosalive and NEDC (embryodonation.org) to donate your embryos, in which I think you would have some say as to what you would want in your criteria for adoption/donating your embies.

Both of theses facilities require a homestudy and other paperwork to be even considered to be placed on the wish list. You can check into their websites.
NEDC is out of Tennessee and is associated with the Christian Medical Society. Both of these websites have an abundance of information that may answer you questions. There is typically no charge to the couple donating the embryos and the recipient person or persons receiving the embies have fees involved.

I think we have talked a little off and on via email. I am not that far away from New Orleans. I live about 45 miles north of NOLA; I just think your boys are beautiful. I am waiting for Cooper to call and let me know if I will be receiving embryos that I have on my wish list; hopefully it will be any day now.

Best wishes in your decision on placing your embies,
Lana

Miracles In Waiting is another organization you might consider. I don't have the web address, but you could google it. I was actually looking into them when we were considering embryo adoption. I think that you are able to chose which couple would receive the embies thru this organization.

The web address for miracles waiting is www.miracleswaiting.org

I believe there is no fees involved in placing your ad on their website and the site is monitored by ladies that have done IVF with donor embies. The only people I believe that pay any fees to the site are the recipients that place their ads and wishing to make contact to see if they have a match with the donating couples.
