out of town cyling question (NY/Miami)
Hi all-
I have a younger cousin who has offered to donate eggs to me. She lives in Miami and we are in NY. Our counselor is making her & her husband come up for screening and it is really tough for them to do this, since they have a small child & have to work. I would rather go down there to do the cycle, since travel isn't a problem for me. My counselor nixed this idea when I first prooosed it but I know that people often travel to do donor IVF, so I am prepared to dismiss her and move on. My 1st question is this: how do you handle beta and follow-up appts after you return home from the transfer? Who do you go to? Does your regular RE do it? Does your owut-of-town (or out of the country) clinic communicate with your RE? My 2nd question is this: what are the good clinics in Miami, FL? Any and all answewrs would be so helpful! Best, K

child mentioned
Hi K!
What a great idea! I cycled out of town (6 hours away) for my first injectible cycle. I was doing the stimming, so they required me to be there for CD3 b/w and u/s. Then I returned after four days of stims and stayed until my DIUI. Because it was a huge hassle, I booked my 2.5 yr old child and I at accommodation about a 25-minute walk away. We took it easy, but made a vacation out of it. Might make it a bit more personal for you and your cousin to be together while she stims and book yourself in a relaxing place to rest after your transfer. If your DH didn't want to take time off work too, you could perhaps freeze his sperm and use that??? Is your counsellor part of the IF staff, or do you mean your RE? If it is a counsellor, perhaps you could discuss the challenges you are having dealing with her. If she is your RE, then yes, changing Clinics is an option. Good luck! Dana |

Thanks, Dana!
My counselor was recommended by my RE; he basically authorized her to do the screening, even though she is not part of the clinic. I think we are going to look into doing it down there, and if we decide to do so, I guess we will have a new RE and a new counselor. Which is fine with me. I can imagine our child being conceived in Miami much more easily than in NYC. I used to live there, and that is where I was living when I had that 1st m/c. Maybe that little spirit is waiting for us down there... |

Kat,
I'm doing DE out of town - Atlanta to Washington DC. Here's how the clinic in DC is having us do it. Donor is in DC - she'll start the stims - I'll be updated during the first 7-10 days. They've given us a start date and a tentative retreival date. We'll be given 48 hours notice - then DH will fly up and do his part. I work fulltime and don't accrue annual leave quickly so I think I'll stay in Atlanta. Then because we've opted for a Day 5 transfer - I'll fly up 5 days later and stay for a day or 2 so I dont' have to travel the day of the transfer. I'll be monitored by my RE in Atlanta for my lining prior to transfer and then my Betas after. I was told that most well known clinics have procedures for out of towners - you need to check on the payment issues and the testing requirements of each clinic - my DC clinic required 1 or 2 tests that the Atlanta clinic didn't - no big deal. Hope this helps, KW |
