If you did DIUI.....

Did you to back to back inseminations?

What days did you take clomid (if you did take clomid)?

How many vials of frozen Dsperm did they use for each insemination?

I'm reluctant to buy too many vials since our donor is not proven yet (he's new as of May 07) and what if we need to end up switching? But, if we have a lot of vials shipped together, its less costly.

Need some advice-thanks in advance,

Bebe

Hi Bebe, (pg mentioned)

DH and I did diui, and did get pg on our first try. We only did one insemination, and used one vial. Count was something like 62 ml with 42% motility. But no, I did'nt take Clomid, I only had one follice which measured 20. My RE only uses one vial per insemination, unless the count is very low. Initially, we did buy 6 vials from our donor, because we really liked him, and he only had around 20 left when we bought. He no longer donates but was a proven donor. We're trying to get pg again, this is our second month trying. No luck yet. We're hoping to get pg over the next 3 months because if not, then we're out of vials. I'm hoping it doesnt come to that, but we'll wait and see. Good luck to you!

Gina

We got pregnant on our first try with DIUI. I didn't take any clomid.

I just did DIUI this morning, as we are trying for a third child. Once again I did not do clomid, used an ovulation predictor and only bought one vial. there were 55 million in the vial but once it was thawed it came down to 22 million with 40% motility.

I'm scheduled to go back in on the 17th of September for beta blood work if I don't get my period before then.

Hope that helps.

The one thing I regret Bebe is not buying many extra units of my donor right off the bat. I only looked at donor's with proven live births from the thawed sperm. Chasing down extra units has been stressful, difficult and in hindsight, expensive. (It now costs close to $1,000. to buy an extra unit, because of exchange, shipping, handling, clinic fees, etc.)

Good luck with your decision. There are many options for you.

We did DIUI and got pg on our first try. Our little girl is due Dec 10th! We did not do back to back...we just used OPK to time ovulation. I was on 100mg clomid day 5-9. We used 1 vial, but I purchased 3...just in case we weren't so lucky. Now the others are in storage and we will have them when we want to try for baby #2.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes!

Hey bebe,
I just started DIUI last month. I'm doing natural cycle for a few to see if that works, so I haven't taken any Clomid, and no trigger, just using OPK.
Doing one insemination per cycle.
The donor we choose also has no confirmed pregnancies, but I figure someone has to be the first right?
We bought up 12 vials right away to ensure that we would *hopefully* have enough for 2 or 3 kids. We did this because we originally had found a donor that we really liked who was available, and the next week he wasn't, and was no longer in the program so that was a little disheartening... I didn't want to run into that problem again, so that's why we bought a lot. I've also heard a lot of stories from people who were trying to have another baby by the same donor and had a really hard time getting more sperm, if they were able to at all. So I'd say if you really like this donor, get a few more vials than you think you would need...
Best of luck!

Cool ladies-thanks for the response and helpful advice.
I ended up only buying 2 vials of sperm, so I have 3 total for now. One vial, they took out 5 sperm and re-froze it, so I wanted to make sure we've got enough. I may want to switch clinics after this one, so then I can have the new order shipped to the new RE if necesssary.

Gina B-I just read that you're preggo from you're 3rd IUI!!Great news!
mindy-I am so happy for you.
Shopgirl, hoping you the best.

Wanttobemom-I hope this works for you.I plan to have a donor baby and then possibly try to conquer the IF madness doing IVF again once I've forgotten how awful it is in a few yrs.

Dana-our donor just released in May 2007, so he's avaailable (but not proven), we are limited too b/c I'm CMV negative, so we have to go lwith a CMV neg. donor. We'll buy more vials to store for the future. But, what if it continually doesn't work and we need to change donors? Then we're stuck w/ 10-12 vials of sperm that we'll never use, but we paid forAND we're apying for storage.

Other ladies, please let me know how your IUI went.

Bebe

We were lucky on our first DIUI, but had purchased 3 vials up front. My md did not do back-to-back, so only had to use one vial. After we were further along, we purchased 3 more, so we have a total of 5 vials in storage. Our donor had stopped donating so we wanted to make sure to have enough--for further down the road when TTC again. I think we went with 3 as 3 was a better deal--or something.

Our iui was with ultrasound, clomid and HCG trigger as well as Follistim on day 11. I'm told it's an odd protocol, for first time IUI, but worked for us. I did clomid 100 mg days 3-7.

Good luck to you!!!

Nikki

We pre-purchased 12 vials in 2005 when our RE said that it could take up to 6-9 tries to get pg....
Well, I got pg on the first set of IUI's (back-to-back) with no meds and only one 18mm follicle.
I think the sperm count was 25mil.

At the new clinic I'm going to now, I've done single IUI's and back-to-back.
The back to back w/ 21,16mm follicles on clomid failed , but the single w/ no meds and a single 19mm follicle worked, however, we lost it.
Sperm count was same as above.
I'm now sticking w/ 50mg Clomid cd3-7 hopefully to increase my chances, but according to my past results, I seem to have better luck w/out meds. strange.
