Anyone use DS from DH'S relative?

I have seen alot of DE from sisters/relative but wondered if anyone did DS from a BIL/relative? We have though about asking BIL but not sure if we could find a DR to do it. Would like to here anyone experiences. DH was diagnosed withe zero sperm we have not done the biopsy yet as the cost of IVF is not in the budget right now.

If we go the DS route, we'd use my BIL. He's a SB to my DH, but I'd feel more comfortable going that route than any other.

Welcome!

Emily,

I see in that you did IVF with Tesa. Can you tell me how much more the tesa cost then regular IVF.

$2000 of which with insurance we pay half.

And this is our first TESA cycle. We actually have sperm in the ejaculate, but recently found we have highly fragmented sperm and are giving TESA a shot.

When we first discussed DIUI DH brought up his brother to be a DS. I checked into it and couldn't believe the cost and waiting that this process would take.

We ended up using a cryobank and are now 24 weeks pg and couldn't be happier! We were so lucky that it worked on the 1st try.

My dh has azoospermia due to Klinefelter (47XXY) Syndrome and when we first found out about it, his older brother offered to be a donor for us. We were seriously considering his offer but our RE at the time wasn't big for known sperm donors and acted like he wouldn't be willing to do it for us, not to mention my BIL was older than the cut off that they like to see for sperm donors (he is 13 yrs older than my dh) plus all the expensive and time involved for the testing, donations, quaratines (sp?), etc. We ended up using CA Cyrobank and having dh photo matched and we got a very close match- our triplets are now 3 yrs 4 mos old and everyone is always remarking how much the boys (1 in particular as they are not identical) look like their dad! We were very happy with CA Cyrobank and our results and really after I got pg and definitely after the babies arrived, I hardly ever even think about the fact that we used DS.

Yes we found the ob/gyn was not open to known ds either. It is a bummer that they can not just do bad that they can not just run the blood test and let you be good to go. Thanks for the info.

my dh has zero sperm and blood work came back with high FSH we have not done a biospy yet as timing did not work out and I did not want to put him through it if we were not able to do IVF yet.

My mom always said we could combine sperm from DHs 2 brothers. After realizing how f-ing complicated that would be, we chose a donor from Fairfax-we did not do photo matching. Just picked the best in terms of the qualities we wanted (height, hair and eye color, etc).

Misty-how many IUIs did it take for you to get pg. I have heard that so much-that people comment on how much the DS kids lookm like their daddy-it cracks me up. Does it ever make you feel resentful or wierd?

Mindy-yahoo for you!!!! I know I won't be that lucky-was your donor a proven pg donor?Just curious.

Thanks, Bebe

Like others have mentioned the amount of money involved and the amount of time the sperm have to spend in quarintine is alot longer then you might think (6 months at least in quarintine).

I don't have any success stories to report from IUIs. I did 14 IUIs using DS. Two IUIs per cycle (back to back days). 7 of the cycles were unmedicated and the other 7 were using injectibles. No luck at all.

Then did IVF with DS. 1st IVF was a chemical pg. 2nd IVF was successful x3!

No it doesn't bother me when someone says how much the boys look like their Dad- I like to hear it- it is like everything (using the DS, etc) worked out fine, like it was supposed to be!
