success rates

Has anyone used a donor and not gotten pg and what was the reason given? I am being quoted success rates of 60%...it is just so much money..and not sure we can financially do it - but it just seems to be going up in cost and I am now told donors are asking for more and more $$...so we have to make a decision.

Everyone is nice here - but there are so few of us - I am trying to read stories...catch up on posts...just not as busy as the IVF Tech site I am used to.

Thanks!

pg/success ment.

My RE doesn't really discuss %. The ED program at my clinic was brand new when we did it. We were couple #4. We were successful 1st try. When we transferred we had also been told that 2 of the 3 prior couples had also conceived (1 with twins and the other with trips). I happened to look at the CDC website recently to review their success for their ED program in 2005 (the year we cycled) and almost fell off my chair when I only saw 3 of 11 with live births! The website doesn't show what the pregnancy rate was but I have to believe it was much higher.

I was on this board for quite a while before our ED cycle and have seen MANY successes!!!! Far more successes than failures. And even those that failed on the fresh cycle, the majority of the people I've seen have succeeded on a frozen cycle.

It definately isn't cheap, but neither is adoption. It's all a risk unfortunately and in a sense we're all gambling. It all comes down to what you really want and what risks you're comfortable taking.

I can tell you a child is priceless! And if your cycle is successful you won't think twice about the money spent.

Good luck with your decision.

I was given 80% chance of success and it was a BFN. No reason why - good embie quality, good lining. But then my first FET was a success.

If finances are tight, you can always consider donor embies. They are MUCH less expensive than eggs. There's a site (that I don't remember) where you can be matched with donors and it is free (other than transport, etc. of the embies) and the cost of the procedure is the cost of an FET ($3k to $5k) rather than the cost of a donor egg cycle (mine was $22k). Don't know how important a genetic link to your DH is, but it is something to consider anyway.

Isabelle - broadly speaking, your chances of success with donor egg are the same as if you were a woman as the same age as your donor.

My clinic says that for a 100 egg collections from donors aged 37 years or younger there were 43 live births from 98 fresh transfers so around 43% success. From the same egg collections there were 61 frozen transfers resulting in 15 births, so around 24%. The 44% success from donor is the same as the cumulative success rate (fresh plus frozen if needed) for non-donor IVF in women 35 or younger.

I hope that helps.
