Please help
I have a male friend who is single and really wants a child. I offered to carry a baby for him, if I am not too old (I am 38).But I really dont know the requirements, process and cost. I wouldn't charge for the surrogacy but we would need a egg donor. I also think we would need hormonal stimulation. If you have any info please share it with me . Thanks

Zakia - you're obviously a very generous woman to consider doing this for a friend
I'm sorry to be nosy, but would you need donor egg becuase you don't want to use your eggs or because you can't? What I mean is, there are various low tech and less expensive ways of you getting pregnant by your friend, rather than going through IVF or using donor eggs. I'm sure you have given this a lot of thought but my advice would be to make absolutely sure that your expectations for future contact are the same as your friend's expectations. You also need to talk to professionals about the medical and social possibilities of carrying a baby for your friend. |

Josie is right, if your hormone levels are good - you could just do an IUI which is much less expensive and try with your own eggs. If you use a donor egg...you are looking at $25k minimum, not including medicine and follow up - depending on your insurance - Donors get between $5k and $10k+ for their eggs and then you have the cost of the IVF...and no guarentee..of pg..
Good luck - looks like you too have a lot of research to do - I would start with a consulation. Also with surrogacy...friend or not, you need legal paper work and that might have another cost associated. Isabelle |
