Shared risk? is it worth it?

Just wanted to run this by ya'll -

The RE I'm using for my DE has a Shared Risk program - It's basically 2x's the cost of 1 DE cycle which allows you up to 4 retrievals with the same donor or another donor if your cycle doesn't end in a BFP. All FET are included.

It's a lot of money - and if you get a BFP on the first time you don't get any money back. Basically, you don't break even until you do 2 fresh cycles.

It seems from what I've read and following this board that this program might not be worth it.

What's your opinion?

KW

You are right it is a lot of money. But I rather do shared risk just in case the first cycle does not work.

I agree. I do understand that it's really a LOT of money but IMHO if it's at all affordable, then it'll buy you more peace of mind should the first one happen to fail (which I pray shouldn't be the case). Also, since it gives you the flexibility of opting for another donor also, you can always switch if your first donor does not respond as per expectation. Good luck and I wish you all the best in whichever way you want to go.

I would have loved the option of a shared risk program but my RE didn't have one. I have had 2 failed IVF's and a failed FET and we are done now. I would of liked to of had a few more chances in there but we are all out of pocket. So in my case I would have gotten my moneys worth, but if it would have worked the first time around, I would have been o.k. with the money loss if I had my baby! I guess you can kind of look at it this way......if the cycles don't work, it is like blowing (losing) money out the window and nothing to show for it (my case), but if it works, yes you lose money, but you have the best thing to show for it, a baby. You just have to do what is best for you.
Best wishes!!

Be sure you understand all aspects of the program. My RE has an outcome based plan but it only includes certain services. It does not include things such as the anesthesia, ICSI, Assisted Hatching, etc. Your plan may be different because you are using DE. Just be sure to understand all of the details. Good luck.
