Is Blast (5 day transfer) way to go if possible?

Are results best when embies can go to 5 day transfer rather than 3 day? What are all your thoughts?

The five day blasts tend to be healthier and heartier and more likely to result in a succesful tranfer. However I have heard that they don't freeze as well.

Take care

I just did a DFET of 3 5-day blasts. According to the embryologist they thawed perfectly & start to plump up almost immediately. By the time transfer took place, 2 were hatching & 1 had completely hatched from the zona (shell). We did do AH. I have 7 more blasts if this doesn't work. My RE says that the thaw is the easiest part...it's the process by which they were frozen that is crucial.

They say a 5 day transfer is better but you lose alot more embryos in the process, I left it up to my RE, and you all know i just found out I am pregnant, so I would live it up to your RE, everyone's body is different.

My personal opinion is 3 day is better. Get the embies back into their natural environment. I have seen many 3 day crappy looking embies that would never have made it to blast turn into future terrors! Oh sorry I mean kids!

I know some Drs refuse to do 5 day transfers cause they have seen the results are not as boosted as some are lead to believe. But again you will find Drs that believe the other way!

Heck I know surrogates that have started doing 2 day transfers and they are working so WHO KNOWS!!

Best of luck to you though

Here is a link for you stating the pros and cons:

thanks girls for all your thoughts! I guess depending upon how the embryos look they will decide which way to go.

fyi: In terms of getting the embryo back to it's environment as fast as possible makes it necessary to wait until blast b/c embryos don't make it to destination until they are at that stage. A three day embryo is not in a natural environment in strict terms; it would be farther up the pipes :

"A day 5 blastocyst transfer in IVF, is closer to natural reproductive physiology, which may increase the chances of implantation as compared to a day 3 transfer."

quoted from http://www.palmettoivf.com/html/blastocyst.html This is not the only place you'll find this at.
