For those of you using donor sperm
How have the SA's been? I've had two diui's w/ 2 different donors and the nurse doing it said the samples were "fine" and that they met standards but they didn't seem that great to me. The first one: morphology 45% motility 45% with a 2 on the 1-4 scale and I can't remember the count. On the second one the numbers were very similar but a 35% motility w/ count of 128 million. I thought these guys would have super sperm! The number I'm less concerned with than the motility, if there's tons of them not really going anywhere this doesn't seem very helpful. I'm curious because I'm going to switch banks if I can get better. Thanks.

I always ended up with 80% motility with at least 30% with forward progression (I'm guessing that's where your 1-4 grading scale comes from?) after thaw and wash, I have no clue about the morphology, I didn't worry about that because any donor should have normal morphology or he couldn't donate! My actual counts after thaw and wash were between 9-15 million per half ml for 10 IUIs (but they messed with my head by telling me the per ml number, which was double
. My worst count was 3 million post thaw and wash and that cycle resulted in triplets. It's all in the swimming quality of the sperm and your timing! Good luck!

my numbers are this though I am clueless what most means....
May IUI... 47.0 concentration, 54% motility, 12.8 total motole cells June IUI...47.5 Concentration, 51 % motility, 14.4 total motile cells Aug IUI...79.5 Concentration, 59% motility, 23.5 total motile cells This is the same donor I used for my son whos now 2. Whats this scale you are speaking of 1-4 as well as the progression? My RE office said anything over 10 is what they want.

DarciB- can I ask you if these numbers are in 1 ml or in .5 ml which they usually use for iui?,and also if you don't mind how many iuis it took you to have your first child?
I'm also using doner sperm ,but i'm not happy with the count.it is 8.7 mill in .5 Ml the last cycle, and I'm not sure how much would it be this time, but this would be my last try. |

the volume is.5ml. Yes ta count of 8.7mil would have me going to the cyrobank demanding a refund!
it took on my first IUI with my son after being cancelled the first 2 cycles for a thin lining.

darci, those numbers sound good to me. I don't think the numbers of my donors are so bad because even given the 30% motility he still ends up w/ a lot of motile sperm. The 1-4 I'm talking about is the actual speed and direction of the sperm like 1 is slow, undirected... each number describes the activity of the sperm. I can't remember them all but I did see a chart online and will try to post it. The report they show me before insem has it on there. They said they want to see at least a 2. Hmm this is all very confusing.
