Costs Questions

We are about to jump into the big egg donor pool and I was just wondering what kind of costs we should expect to have and the various types of programs different clinics/doctors offer. Its so much money. I have already experienced significant difs in appt visits in two different RE's. I would be interensted to know.

Hello,

I remember reading the following thread a little while ago. There will be some answers there for you. CrystalAZ does a nice break down of hers:

I hope this helps,

It is good to shop around. My RE uses donor egg agencies as well as their own donor pool, they are about $3K cheaper, they had a significantly shorter wait list for donors in their pool(though we chose to go agency anyway), and they let you see a childhood picture vs. no picture at all at my old RE(so more $$$, longer wait, less flexibility, no pictures there).

Best of luck.

And as I posted to the other poster, it was $22,600 for anonymous, $18500 for known and mine is working with my insurance to save us about $5K(which we are using for the agency to get going sooner).

HTH,
Emily

I received an email from a place in Ukraine. Donor embryo's. The entire cost was about $5100 Plus air fare.

To quote them
"The cost of the egg donation here is 18 895 hryvna ( about 3150 euro),
ICSI if necessary is 2000 hryvna (about 334 euro), the dose of donor
sperm is 350 hryvna (about 55 euro), plus addtional supporting services
for foreign patients (including listing, remote stimulation,
translator's support, taxi price, transfer from airport and back) is
2350 hryvna (about 392 euro)."

Approx 4,000 euro which is about $5,100.

No doubt the price looks good, but what are they safety practices and experience? I would have reservations before going there and let them touch me.

I was just on another site that is here in Europe. They talk a lot about this clinic, one in Poland, another in Spain and I just read about one in Cyprus.

Plus.. it's all about what we feel confident with. I've been to Costa Rica and to Mexico for surgery. So if I decide on Ukraine- I'll probably feel like I've educated myself enough to be comfortable with that route as well. It helps that I've lived in that part of the world for four years and feel comfortable w/ the people and the language.

It certainly is all about perception, reliable knowledge and experience. It does help to be familiar with the area and have had other medical experiences in foreign countries. I have not and would feel uneasy; I would have to get very familiar with the folks there and move there for a while. The thought of the possibility of having complications and being stuck in an unfamiliar place is not very enticing not to mention the accruable cost. How does health insurance work there, if you're out of the country? Is it all out of pocket?

Best wishes

It would definately be out of pocket. Insurance would not pay. I won't be thre all that long and if something happened where I needed hospitization- then just like anyone traveling overseas- you do what you need to do. The two times I've gone abroad for surgery- insurance did not pay.
