Reality Check....Cost of Donor Eggs

Hi everyone! I'm not sure if this will be something I need to look into (on second IVF and I'm not stimming at all). I have absolutely no concept of how much it will cost to do IVF with donor eggs...could anyone give me some insight? I know the donors get paid a lot of $$$ and I'm not sure if that's the cost that we pay. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If my mind does not fail me I believe my donor was paid only 2000.00 and we paid for her drugs, about 1800.00. I believe it usually is in a package because there are a few ultrasounds also the donor has to have and then the retrieval. So from IVF to IVF with donor eggs the additional cost was about 5-6000.00 Hope this helps
Good luck to you

Hmm...I don't think that could be all!! From what I've been reading online, it seems to be about 15,000-25,000....and if that's the case I'm in big trouble...I would much rather it be closer to your # but somehow I don't think it would be...

Here's our costs:

From the donor agency:

Agency fee: $2500
Donor compensation: $3000
Donor Insurance: $400 (to cover if they have complications)
Psych Eval: $400
Genetic Screening: $400
Blood Work: $1000-$1500
FDA Required Blood Work - $300

The agency required 1/2 of the $2500 and $3000 down and the other half will be paid upon ER.

From the doctor's office:

IVF Donor Package: $11,580.00
This includes Donor screens, Egg retrieval, Preparation and embryo culture, embryo transfer, and ultrasounds.
ICSI (if necessary): $1700
Cryopreservation: $850
Donor anesthesia: $500

From the pharmacy:

Donor meds: $1300
My meds: $500
Plus the RE's office just had to order $500 more for the donor!!!

On top of that, there have been a couple of uncovered doctor's visits equalling $500 or so.

So, add that up (I'd rather not!!! ) and that's how much we are paying.

If you don't go through an agency that will reduce your costs. If you pick a proven donor, that can reduce costs (you don't have to pay psych or genetic screening since it has already been done), and picking a less expensive RE can reduce costs (ours is more than our first RE but we like him more and he has better stats).

You can also save a lot going with donor embryos. You don't have to pay anything for the donor or her stimming, etc, so you can pay a few thousand for it rather than that crazy amount above. Of course, then you don't get the DH bio link, but if money is a factor, it is definitely something to consider.

Hope this helps!

Crystal

Sorry this was not clear.....the additional 5-6000.00 on top of the straight IVF with ICSI is what I meant so a total of about 15000.00 at our clinic. I don't like knowing how much it has cost us so this is a rough idea.

At my clinic it's $22,600 for an anonymous donor and $18,600 for a known donor. The donors get $5000 compensation.

If you use an agency for your donor, the costs go up. The one we'll probably use will be $4500 for the agency and $6000 for the donor, but my clinic will charge me less. Using an agency means more choices and the ability to have the donor be available for future contact whereas the waitlist has the advantage of a "blessed" donor ready to go when you have her profile handed to you.

The clinic is helping us out by filing everything after ER to our insurance, so we'll pay about $5000 less than the standard flat fee.

It is terribly expensive. I asked DH to see if he could get donor coverage added to our insurance when it gets redone in Sept, but he's shy about doing that. That would cover the donor's follie checks and egg retrieval, saving us even more $$$.

best of luck,

Emily

In my experience, EDs get from 3000 to 7000 depending whom you find them through. Add the agency fee if you use them, which ranges from 4500 to 5000, again in my experience. That's on top of the IVF.

I have frozen embryos and need guidance

I want to donate our frozen embryos through private donation. I do not want any remuneration just good parents. I am in the Pittsburgh area, my IVF does not have a program. Does anyone have any suggestions on finding a donor family ?

You should be able to find ED agencies in your area; some do embryos donation, however, they do not advertise for it. I don't have more details though.

You could also contact all the other fertility clinics in your area.

I've heard of something called "snowflake adoption" or something similar. I know it's "snowflake soemthing". They do donor embryo adoptions.

I hope you find a home for the little ones soon.
