Moving forward with DE - the latest news

Well, we picked a donor. She seems really great. She has donated 4 times before which resulted in 4 pregnancies. She has a lot of my family's characteristics and I am really excited about her.

I just got my calendar from my RE's office and it looks like we'll be doing the implantation around July 6. The funny thing is that would make my due date the day after my birthday.

I just hope everything leading up to it goes smoothly. Right now, just waiting for AF so they can sync our cycles.

Yay!

Crystal

I was just looking at the posts today & yours caught my eye.
Would this be her 5th egg donation with you? The reason I'm asking is that most clinics, mine included, limit the amount of donations to 3 (average). There's a lot of different reasons, but one has to do with the quality & quantity when doing it over & over, so many stims & the changes that occur with cells & ovaries.
No doubt with all getting pregnant, things sound great with her, but just something to ask your clinic.

Did all 4 previous pregnancies end in all live births? How many had multiples?

Good luck, this is a really exiciting time!

The agency allows them to donate 5 times. I haven't found out more about the pregnancies yet - I will when I talk to the agency again.

There are lots of us who have multiple IVFs so I don't know why it would be different for donors. But I will ask. My RE's office has already seen the donor and they are highly impressed by her - they said she is "really wonderful".

LisaWA,

I had two different donors, both are my sisters. I also had two different clinics, my older sister lived in CA at the time and I live in NY. I did two fresh and one frozen cycle with my older sister. I did one fresh and one frozen cycle with my younger sister.

The three failed cycles resulted in a neg. beta test, which means the embies never attached.

My 1st pregnancy was a fresh cycle and I had three embies put in. This current pregnancy I had a frozen cycle and had three embies put in as well.

I have been very blessed to have my siblings gift us such a beautiful gift of life. We are a very close family and I would not choose it any other way!

Donating Multiple times

We were our donor's 6th donation. All couples previous to us got pregnant with multiples. (some twins and some triplets). We transferred two blasts at day 5 and got pg with a singleton boy. We have many frozen embies for more babies. So, I wouldn't worry one little bit about your donor. ASRM guidelines recommend donating no more than 6 times, so your donor is fine. We got a Fertile Myrtle proven donor and it worked for us!

That's great news Crystal!

Part of the reason that they won't allow donors to donate more than a certain number of times is because they don't want to compromise their fertility, and because if a donor donated a bunch of times & pregnancies were achieved each time, plus frozen embryo's used to have more children, the number of children out there with the same DNA could just complicate things more.

When we cycle multiple times, it doesn't have the same impact as we're only creating our own families, so there aren't going to potentially be kids with our DNA who may end up meeting in the future.
