Don't know where to start
I don't know where to start in considering SD. I know the names of some banks, but I don't know what criteria to look for or how the process works. Can anyone point my in the right direction?
Thanks!

Hi, we just did our first iui w/ a donor this morning. We went with California Cryobank. My RE's office recommended them. As far as criteria goes we just went with someone who had one of our blood types and my DH's features the best we could. Hope that helps some.

So, August, you sound fine - kinda surveyed your recent posts, clearly you're just another FT frequenter like me - but this foundation sounds a bit odd. For example, it says that fertility research shows it takes 20 inseminations for a woman to become pregnant. I've never read that, and I've read a lot! Also, it says nothing about its history, or who's behind it, or who is on its board of directors or anything. It may be brand new and therefore somewhat rough, but it only has 3 sperm donors (according to its site.) Anyway, where did you hear of it and do you know anything about it? What I saw would make me really wary of it.

Oh and Family of 2!
This BB is the BEST place to start! Spend some time reading the pinned and some old posts, I'd say. Then just keep posting questions. That is how I got through the process over 5 years ago! Everyone seems to use a different process, and some of that depends on if you plan to disclose or not - eg choosing donors that match blood types if you don't plan to disclose, or choosing banks dedicated to making sure resulting children can meet their donors when they become adults - which was frankly not as much discussed (at least in the circles I was in) 5 years ago. We used Calif. Cryo too - spent a lot of time on its website looking over donors, and kind of looked for similar characteristics to dh. They have a photo match service (as do many other banks) so if you're looking for donors that resemble a dh, that can be a comfort of sorts. Some banks show adult pictures, some show baby pictures. Lots to sort through! Good luck and keep asking, maria2 mom to David 4 and Katie 18 mo via my eggs and two donors |
