?Sperm Count?
I'm hoping someone can help me out with a few questions about Donor sperm. What should the ideal count be for IUI? We are on our second cycle this month after taking a small break because of a cyst.
In January we triggered O and did 1 IUI two days later using one .5 ml vial. Our clinic did a gradient wash on it and we ended up with .3 ml and a count of 4.08 million total motile swimmers with a 68% motility and ~35% morphology. That cycle was a BFN. This cycle we again triggered O and because we had two .5 ml vials we decided to use both to increase the count. After the clinic did the gradient wash we still ended up with .3 mls and a count of 4.8 million total motile swimmers with a 40% motility and ~20% morphology. The before gradient count for all of the samples were close to the same. The question I have is if we doubled the amount this time why did the clinic still insert the same volume (.3ml) Is this the normal amount? I tried talking to the doctor (not my regular, she was off) but all I got from him was "It only takes one." I really don't think that this cycle is "the one" because of this. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions. ![]() TSVM

CanadianArmyWif,
Well, my personal opinion and of what I read is that more than the amount in the vials is more important the timing of your IUI, even if you do one vial in the right time you may get pregnant but if they don't get the correct time, nothing will happen, and also of what I read not only take one, take many "soldiers" to debilitate the outside of the wall of the egg and then, yes, only one will be the lucky. I hope I helped you, this is what I've read. I think this time you may be lucky, please keep us posted!!! |

Thanks little miracle for the support and encouragement.
The timing for IUI was Trigger at 6pm Saturday and we had the IUI on Monday at 11 am. This board is the best! I'm driving myself crazy with all the "what if's" Do you think we can get a discount at the nuthouse for all of us 2ww'ers?

Your question is valid, re volume inserted. Have you tried asking your RE or the clinic for an explanation?
Here is the link to a site I found that has excellent information, perhaps you'll find your answer there: http://www.ivf1.com/casa/ |

Thanks mx22006, I'll look into that site and talk to the RE about the count/volume if this cycle is a BFN.
