? about donor sperm
One of dh's problems with moving to donor sperm if IVF doesn't work is he has this idea of the 'type' of guys who donate sperm, and let's just say it's not a flattering picture in his mind. I'm sure he's wrong, but that is what's in his mind. Exactly how much info can you get on the donors? Do you get to see their pictures and enough info about them to convince my DH that, say, "Donor X" is a decent guy?
Just what kind of info can you get at a sperm bank? I am TOTALLY ignorant on this subject, so any info given is great.

At California Cyrobank you can get a lot of info on the donor. Their profiles are extensive and you can even hear in interview, get employee comments, Kensey report , family medical history and some have baby photos.
There is one bank I think it's Fairfax that has donors that are all in Doctorate programs. I'm sure there are some donors that may fit your dh's thoughts but a lot of them seem very educated. You should check out a few of the banks online, you can obtain short profiles for free and then purchase the longer ones if you like one. Good luck! |

Our donor was a law student with a wife and a new baby who was looking for a little extra money. I have a recording of him doing an interview - he was articulate and had a dry sense of humor.
If you look on the websited for Fairfax and California Cryobank - they will give you examples of the information they give out. |

I have adult and child photos of my donor....he looks like an average guy....just what I wanted! I also got extensive health history...and interviews of his. We also got a personality test he took. He seems like a nice guy who could just use some extra money. He just came back to the program for families like us who wanted more bio children....so he cant be all that bad....besides my boys are nice kids...LOL
Tracy ps it does take time...and my dh still thinks most donors are in it for the money...but I dont think they make that much....considering how much the sperm bank charges! T

We chose our donor based on a few things, mainly education and family medical history. We have a detailed medical package and a childhood photo.

What sperm bank did you purchase from? My dh and I spend about $500 a vial. Wildflower- My dh was against using sd, for him it was a problem of "me carrying someone elses baby" it took time and lots of hard conversations, but we are both on the same page now. The most important thing is having a baby, that needs to be your dh's focus. I spent a lot of time reassuring my husband that I love him and the baby will be his!! The sd is just DNA, by dh will be "daddy"

Our latest vials were 300 for unwashed...plus 35 per month storage....and about 160 for shipping....they get you all the way around! When we started this it was about 250 a vial...and 6mo free storage. Not anymore!! And 250 was for washed units!! It is unbelievable what they charge for this stuff...LOL....but my RE said it is clean stuff...better tested then most husbands..I know at xytex they have a minimum quarantee...and we have always had excellent post thaw/wash counts!
that stuff does matter! Tracy
