Decided against DIUI for now and questions about shared egg cycles

First, I want to thank all of you, you have been great and I appreciate your help more than I can say. Second, Dh and I talked tonight. I left my job to start our own business (this is why I had way to much time on my hand last week) Anyway financially we can't do any treatments right now. After the 2 failed IVF cycles and now a failed DICI I can't justify the cost. Even though we saved alot last month we still paid for the sample, dr fees, medication, testing even without him doing the IUI we paid over $1000 and now doc would be doing the procedure it would cost more. I think I would rather save and try IVF w/ DS eventually. The problem is with starting our business I may not have the extra funds for a very long time. We also just moved from SanDiego to NM and bought a house that we are completly redoing (fixer upper) so I'm looking for any programs either shared eggs or studies that may help. If you have any info I would really appreciate it.
Good Luck to all of you,
Bren

Hi Bren. I did a shared cycle, and it was such a great experience! Luckily, I had a great crop of eggs - 21 - and I got to keep 11, and she got 10. I did not get pregnant that cycle, and of course I do not know about her - but I hope she did! I was fortunate enough to have drug coverage at the time, so the only thing I paid for was my own transfer. The recipient couple was responsible for the rest. If you can separate the fact that your eggs are just tissue, and not "part of you", and if it's estimated you would respond well, you would be a great candidate!

Thanks for the response. I spoke to a coordinator today and she is going to speak with some couples to see if they would be interested. My first IVF they retrieved 26 eggs and the 2nd IVF they got 22 or 24, both cycles like 19 were mature. So hopefully I might have a chance still. I'll keep everyone posted.

Bren,
just wanted to tell you how very sorry I am.....I understand about the money issues! All this IF just stinks...and if you are paying for everything..it is just an extra sting! Still sitting here trying to decide what to do next! Good luck, I suggest playing the lottery....not that it has helped me...but at least I get to dream twice a week about all the IF treatments I could afford if I did win!
Take care,
Tracy
ps I am really bummed it didnt work for you and dh...I was getting excited about trying at home!!! It would be really nice to finally conceive a baby at home instead of a dr office!!

Hi little miracle and justfor2 and thanks to Karen for letting me know you posted here!!!

little miracle, this third IVF, we didn't do a shared cycle. It was just my eggs with DH's swimmers. Only the first cycle was shared a few years ago. DH really wanted to keep all the eggs for #2 and #3 as opposed to sharing them. Call him selfish.

justfor2 - I'm sure I am bias, but the Cleveland Clinic (where I went) in Beachwood (their main location) was where I did my cycles. And they do the shared cycle program. Are you looking to be a donor or a recipient? I'm not sure about the wait if you are recipient, but when I agreed to donate, I was matched within a day! The Cleveland Clinic is outstanding and has the best success rates in the state. Universtity Hospitals is also good, as is Reproductive Gynecology in Akron. If you decide to look into Cleveland Clinic, you will certainly want Dr. Goldfarb as your primary doc. He is WONDERFUL......and I thought he was wonderful even before I was pregnant!

I rarely do this, but I left my signature in the post this time so you can see the history...

Question

somedaymommy/willbeMommysoon
I went to Cleveland Clinic Dr.Falcone..My Dh husband does not like the idea of Donor egg.I bought a couple books so my hubby would feel better.
He seems to believe we still can conceive,But my doc said at age 42 and for ethical reason we must go donor egg.
Not clear why he took us knowing our history?
Somedaymommy I send you Gr8 Big Hugs and Congrats again Mommy!!!
