Donor ovulated early - it's over
I can't believe this. In between crying and asking God WHY?!?!? I had to post. Hopefully someone can settle me down. My RE just called to tell me something went wrong. Our donor's E2 dropped from 2,000+ to just under 500. He believes she ovulated. We can either go ahead with retrieval but there's a very good chance for poor quality, immature eggs or cancel. This is our final attempt. We can't afford to take the chance. We're cancelling. We lost all that out-of-pocket money on the meds, and I'll find out tomorrow what we lost as far as the clinic goes. I am so mad. Everything looked so good. This was supposed to be it for us. Why doesn't God want us to have a baby?

Genie~ I am so sorry to read your update. I know it doesn't seem fair at all but later in the near future you will be able to look back and "know" why this has happened. Your little one is still on his/her way to you so don't give up. She will find another way to be with you.

Oh no genie!!
![]() I would be furious about the clinic allowing this to happen!! I would be asking them for a refund or for donated meds for another cycle. I can't believe that if they were monitoring her as they should have that she'd have ovulated that quickly!! I'd be furious too!!! ![]() I was going to say the same thing 50/50 said- there is a reason for this happening. This wasn't the right time for you guys, perhaps something would've gone wrong or the cycle wouldn't have gotten you guys any good embryo's & waiting for a new cycle will get you the good results that you need & it will end in a beautiful little baby in your arms!!! Don't give up!! Demand some answers from your RE. Let us know what happens! ![]() Karen

I can see how this entire thing is angering you. Don't throw the towel quite yet. Talk it over with the RE and see if and how he can help. See if a shared cycle be an option so you can split the cost with someone else as far as the donor goes. See if you could be a candidate to be part of a study if you're willing to go that route. There has to be a way.

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately my RE has been silent except for sharing the news with us on Tuesday evening. NO ONE from his office has called to talk about this. I am furious.
I did receive a call from the agency we used. She called to tell me the donor gets $1500 of the 4k donor fee we paid; the rest of the money stays in escrow. She also told me the donor was very concerned about not triggering and that she voiced her concerns to our clinic on Monday. They didn't change their protocol. She ovulated. (gee, it seems clear to me who is accountable!) The woman from the gency also told me the donor feels awful and wants to work with us again, she only wishes it were with another clinic. Right now, I wish we could, too, but I think contractually we're bound and we have $23k invested with them for this cycle. This sucks!!!

I'm with Karen on this one...the clinic should have been monitoring her more closely and realized she was closer to ovulation. I too think you have the right to request a free consult and ask what they are going to do to make this up to you since you are out the meds and $1500 donor fee. they should be willing to make it up to you by discounting their (non-insurance covered) expenses by at least the $1500 and giving you donated meds.
It really is no surprise that the clinic won't go out of their way to call you...no one wants to face up to an error, but they should be willing to sit down and talk to you about it if you insist. BTW, I went to two different Cincy OH clinics and had no problems with "surprise" ovulation. Diana

genie,
It sounds like you put money up front; I really wonder (beyond their claims) why clinics feel they have to do that if they're honest. I'm wondering if you had the contract reviewed by a lawyer before signing? If not, maybe now is the time to do it and make the clinic accountable; some of the clauses they put in there make it sound like they are totally exhonated etc, but in truth, it would not hold in a court of law and a lawyer would be able to point it out and pressure them to do the honorable thing. Best wishes |
