Seeking advice/help in finding egg donor of African heritage
My husband and I have been looking for an egg donor for the past few months and we are having a hard time finding a good match. I am originally from Haiti, and I would like to find a donor who shares my background. We've spoken with a lot of agencies -- many of them have a few donors of African heritage, but we haven't yet found anyone who is a good physical match (5' 7"+, medium/athletic build, dark skin). Our ideal donor would be Haitian, but we'd be thrilled to find anyone of African heritage who is a good match.
About two weeks ago we launched our own website to help us find a donor (www.haitianwannabemom.com) and we're sending e-mail to family, friends and as many Haitian, African, Caribbean and African-American student organizations as we can find. We're also considering taking out a couple of newspaper adds (e.g., with the Haitian Times). Does anyone have any ideas about other avenues through which we might find a donor? Can anyone help us get this message out to people who can help us or might know others who can? Thanks!

Have you placed an ad on: http://www.surromomsonline.com/ ? there are donors who post on there looking for IPs as well. Good luck!

Agencies recruit a lot of folks by posting ads in universities/colleges newspapers. There are some that are predominently attended by African American which you may want to consider first.
I personally wouldn't be too specific in the ad just so that if my ideal person doesn't show up I wouldn't be totally empty handed. After our several months of fumbling around trying to find one ourselves, i.e. without an agency, we were just about ready to get any human warm body. Also, no matter what the donor looks like, there is absolutely NO guarantee that your child will end up looking like her at all. Same would go for your natural children. Genes have a way to go wandering ![]() Good luck |

I was going to suggest surromomsonline, 50/50 posted the link already. You can place an ad there & you might have some luck that way. It's a free way to get the word out.
Good luck in your search. Karen
