Onward and Upwards - QUITE LONG!!!!!!
Hi guys,
Been a bit quite since my last post as the RE we are seeing threw me such a curve its taken a while to get my head around it.!!! Ok - rewind to Tuesday 27/9, went to see RE after waiting for her to get back from holidays to discuss DI and when we start as the donor is already picked and everything. She then decides to question DH's decision to go Donor, and I ask he about clomid. She tells me I have elevated prolactin levels and that she is ordering a CT scan and I quote" what I'm really looking for Vicky is A TUMOR!!!!!! But even if you have a tumor dont worry we will just watch it grow throughout the preganacy!!!!!" So DH and I left feeling quite crappy to say the least, I went for the CT and am still waiting on the results. Anywho now onto 28/9. I go see my local GP cos I'm stressing to the max and he tells me my levels are "slightly elevated" but not really alarming and is looking at me bewildered when I'm telling him what happpened yesterday so he gives me a referall to a local GYN to get a second opinion - however keeps reminding me of our options and to go elsewhere!!!! So now onto 29/10 - Well yesterday I decide to ring a few clinics in Melbourne to find out their protocaols on DI - and as it turnd out we get 6 DI ( not 2 like this one) and on medicated cycles they Insem on 3 follies( not 2 like this one) - also as it turns out DI unmedicated is about $200 cheaper than we we are at. !!!!!! Well today 30/9 I made the appt with an RE at Monash IVF, and have just rang the local Clinic to forward our records on to them. I have my GP chasing up the resuuts of the CT scan so I'll know by tonight wheteher I'm DYING OR NOT...LOL And as luck would have it the RE we are seeing at Monash delivered the first IVF baby in Australia!!!! and has been there since its inception( over 20 years) So I think its safe to say he knows what he's doing!!!!! Well just wanted to let you all know whats been going on, and where we are at. So I am now truly feeling excited and confident I'll be a mummy soon!!!! :stickyvib :stickyvib Once again sorry about the long post

Sorry to hear about all the struggles you are encountering. I hope everything turns out well for you. Please let us know if your tests come back okay. I am sure they will be, by the sounds of the response from your GP. It sounds funny that they would want to continue with treatments if you had a tumor. They must figure it would be a benign one. You would think they would want to see its location and stuff first. RE's are weird!
Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you. Infertile Frog |

Thanks Frog for the concerns,
And in the great words of Arnold Swartzennegar(sp) in Kindergarten Cop "ITS NOT A TUMOUR"...LOL

Hi,
Wow, I'm sooo glad everything worked out for the best but, that must have been so scary for you!! I know I was extremely concerned just reading your post. I'm in a similiar situation, getting ready for my first DI and had elevated prolactin levels too. My RE put me on Dostinex, I retested and he was concerned my levels were teetering so close to the low cut off level--retested a third time and am now waiting for the results. Isn't this stuff such a pain? Anyway, it sounds like your on the right track now. I hope this is your LAST bump in the IF road and a BFP is in the near future for both of us! Julie |

Julie,
Thanks for your reply. What levels are your prolactin at, mine were 900 and she thought I had a tumor however I have come across sites where they were as high as 1200 without RE being worried?? Once again thankyou and I'm sure we will have BFP'S for both of us soon.

Hi Vicky,
At first my level was 30.2 on day 8 (norm is 1-20). Then I repeated 16 days later and it was at 36.7. I was put on Dostinex (.25 mg 2x wk) and repeated on day 28--my level was 1.9. Now they are concerned my levels are so close to the low cut-off of 1. I went in this past Friday (2 weeks later) and am waiting on the results. Did your RE say anything to you about Dostinex? Again, I'm so glad things worked out for you and now you can get on with your cycle. Good luck and keep us posted. Julie |

Julie,
My Re did mention dostinex to me so I did a bit of a search in yahoo and google "Dosinex and Preganancy" and I have found some conflictinbg stuff. So I think I'll just wait till I gt to the new RE before I take any meds. I just dont trust the old RE, and in same cases dostinex has been known to inhibit preganancy. Hoever I could be wrong. Just dont be alarmed, I am just waiting till Monash tell me to take it. If they do then I'll use it. Glad to hear that your levels are coming down, so hopefully soon you'll have a BFP!!!!!
