Reintroduction and DI Question
Hi Ladies,
I've been lurking on this site for a while but don't post too often, as I've been cautiously weighing out my options for some time now. I put myself on the bench about 13 months ago while dh and I figured out our next step and our finances--we've been through 2 IUIs and 6 IVFs to no avail. We've decided to do a DI cycle and I'm really excited and hopeful for it. I called the REs and asked how many vials I should order. The coordinator told me that they use 2 for each insemination. Does this sound right??? When I asked why 2 she said, "for volume purposes." I'm confused--Why would banks create vials with only 1/2 the sperm needed for an insemination? Don't get me wrong, I obviously want the best chance possible but also have to consider the $$. Is this how it's done at other offices too? Any input or experise would be appreciated. Hoping all of our dreams come true soon! Julie

I sent you a private message about a month ago... i don't think you ever picked it up. Peek under where it says Welcome, Julie_MA then it should say private messages and go from there.
It is about 50/50 what drs do(one iui per cycle or two). If they are doing unmedicated cycles, many RE will do two IUI's(like monday/tuesday). If they are doing clomid with an hcg trigger shot to improve timing of ovulation, then many will go with one IUI(which is what we did). I am gathering you are probably doing unmedicated, thus why your RE wants to do back to back IUI's. You can talk with him about this though. My RE says it does not improve success rates, it just doubles cost. good luck.

Wow--so sorry about the private message...I guess I dropped the ball on that one. Yikes, how embarassing! I didn't know about it. I sent you a reply.
As for your message about the vials...see, that's where the confusion comes in. My RE and nurses told me that I would be doing 1 medicated (clomid and hcg trigger) IUI. Yet, the Andrology Lab Coordinator says I need 2 vials. But, you bring up a very good point. I wonder if the AL coordinator thinks I'm doing 2 inseminations???? Thanks, Julie |
