What's a good follicle count?
Our donor called me this morning and told me she has 14 follicles, 9 under 10mm, the rest over 10mm. She's been on Follistem stince Sep 17.
I'm feeling a little disappointed in the follicle count! My dh thinks it sounds good and that it's quality not quantity. I was hoping for some to freeze. Could that even be a possibility? Thanks for listening to me vent. This de experience has been a little stressful for me. Long road. Hoping it's coming to an end soon and we'll be parents soon.

((((HUGS)))) Unfortunately you really can't judge anything based on follicle count. Because not all follicles contain eggs and there could be follicles that they couldn't see that weren't included in the count. You just need to remain hopeful and think positive! I know, easier said than done, sorry
![]() We used an anonymous ED through our clinic and I was not given ANY info until after the eggs were retrieved and officially "mine". I have no clue how many follicles they thought she had but we ended up with 11 eggs, 10 of which fertilized with ICSI. We transferred perfect AA blasts on day 5 and have 2 good blasts in the freezer And BTW - I'm pg with twins from my first transfer It REALLY is quality over quantity, but as we've said 1,000x - we all want BOTH. Hang in there. Wishing you tons of luck with this cycle. Keep us posted.

I'm in the 2ww and let's just say-anything goes so try not to worry. If you saw my posts, our donor had 29 follicles....27 eggs...24 were mature...12 fizzled out and out of the 12 left...4 fertilized and we put back 2 blasts on a 5dt...none to freeze. You would think with that original "quantity", we'd have the freezer full
but no such luck. Quality rules here.....hang in there! hugs!

Like the Emily's Mom state you really can't tell much based on the follie count. My donor had 25 follies and at r/t we only got 9 eggs. You really want quality over quanity anyhow. So hopefully all of your eggs will be of great quality! All of my 9 were mature, 8 made it 3 day transfer so overall I was happy when I heard the news. Good luck to you!

Of course it's hard not to hope that you can start with the best possible odds (the most follicles). However, many REs shoot for between 10 and 15 eggs because quality is the most important thing. As you can see here, the follicle count is not always the best indicator. Hope you get plenty of good quality eggs!

I was told my donor would have about 12 eggs at retrieval. I got the call that they retrieved 28 eggs and almost fainted! Then that number dwindles down with maturity and fertilization, then quality.
You really don't know what you have until transfer day. Just think positive!

Thanks
for the replies!
Our donor triggers tonight and retrieval is Wed morning. Everything looks good, my lining is 9 mm and triphasic (?? - can't remember if that's actually the word she used!) RE nurse said we'll either tansfer on Saturday or Monday. Either day works for me! Thanks for all the support and good wishes. Hoping and praying that our time has come.
