Update On treatment plan

I thought I would update my situation. After all the replies I got (which I'm very appreciative about!) regarding my RE wanting to wait for 6 failed DIUI's, I decided I would give my RE one more chance and called the nurse and said that I wanted to take the next step just to see how she responded and she actually scheduled a consult which we went in for yesterday and he agreed to start me on Clomid (50 mg days 5-9.) He said depending on how I responded, he would increase the dosage each cycle and if that still doesn't work then we'll try 2 DIUI's per cycle.

After all the wonderful side effects that I've read clomid has, I think it's funny that I'm actually happy to be getting to use it!

So now I just need AF to show up...

I do have once question though, the nurse told me that when they see a mature follicle, they are going to give me a blood test to check my Estrogen level to make sure that I'm not developing empty eggs. What does that mean?

Thank you for all your help!

I am not sure what that means either. I know in my numerous IVF cycles, they did not know that certain follicles were empty until they tried to retrieve the eggs. Ask your RE to explain in further detail. Good luck on your treatment plan. Any reason they do not want to do injectables and are doing Clomid instead?

Thanks for the positive thoughts everyone. I guess I wasn't really digesting everything the nurse was telling me when she was going over our checklist. I took your advice Laenae and called the nurse and asked her to re-explain. It's not the egg that might be empty, it's the follicle. (I'm a dork!) :-) So that makes sense to me.

Laenae- The Dr didn't give me a reason for using Clomid over injectibles, just said that we'll start with the low dose of Clomid and increase it a couple of times if it doesn't work, then we'd move on to injectibles. Could be because I do ovulate or could be because of my age (I'm 25)

It sounds like he is going with Clomid because of your age. I hope that your cycle works for you and that you will not have to go on to injectables. Please keep us posted.

I guess the nurse already explained to you, but each mature follicle containing a mature egg usually gives an E2 level around 200. That way they can usually have an estimate of how many mature eggs you have.

If you respond to it, clomid is just a cheaper way to start. Hope it works!
