Donor contract

Our RE's office gave us a copy of the donor contract, which our known donor signed. It's pretty straight forward, she gives up all rights to the egss, embryos, offspring. We were also told that it might be a good idea to get another contract from an attorney, since our state doesn't have any donor laws. Although our donor is known, she is not a friend or family member and we agreed we would not keep up contact after the cycle ended. I am not worried she'll come back down the road and cause us any stress related to this.

My husband and I are wondering if we should bother with a separate contract ($500!!!!) or just use the one our RE's office provides.

Any advice?

Thanks.

I used an agency where we signed a contract and our donor signed another. Did you sign your RE's as well or did your donor just sign it? You just never know what may happen later and $500 is not that much considering what maybe at stake. I don't know how lengthy or precise your RE's contract was but ours was very lengthy and thorough. Good luck to you!

I recommend getting your own lawyer and contract. Our state (Illinois) does not have donor laws yet either but it does have surrogate laws and my lawyer pretty much follows those. Anything that applies with surrogate she is relating to donor eggs as well. I also questioned having attorneys for us and our friend (known donor) but really in the end you never know what might happen and we all wanted to be clear about our intent and desires, legally.

Good luck to you.
