Quality over Quantity, right?-New Fert Report
Help! I'm distressed! The RE called me (bad sign) and told me the following:
27 eggs, 24 were mature, of the 24, 12 degenerated on their own. Out of the 12 remaining eggs only 4 fertilized. He said sperm was perfect and this may just be a "fluke" but hopefully age of donor is on our side. If he has 2 embryos by transfer he considers that success. Question of the hour: My RE ONLY does day 5 transfer....should I push for day 3?? I feel down in the dumps but want to feel positive still. Need stories from all of you that had similar stats. Thanks......

Oh no.
If it were me I would push for a 3 day with only 4 eggs. I am so sorry that this has happened but like everyone says it only takes one. You will prob hate hearing that as I did when I got my egg count. I wanted to tell you that a friend of mine did an ivf with her own eggs and only had 2 eggs r/t, only one embryo made it to the 3 day transfer and she just had her healthy baby boy a little while ago. It can happen Deeja. Keep positive and yes it's definately Quality over quanity. Will be keeping your 4 embies in my thoughts and sending you many positive vibes. Good luck! |

Oh Deeja .. big ((((HUGS)))) I really wasn't expecting this. Well it is quantity over quality, although we all know from experience that we're always more comfortable with quantity AND expect excellent quality (using young donor eggs).
If it were me, I'd definately push for a day 3 transfer and I'd probably transfer whatever I had still going on day 3! Given you have a young donor I have to believe they'd still be okay on day 5, but God forbid they aren't, I'd always be second guessing myself for not trying to get them to agree to a day 3 transfer. Try your best to stay positive, we all have to work with the hand we're dealt and hope for the best. Praying real hard your 4 embies continue to divide and make perfect embies & babies for you. Keep us posted. ((((HUGS))))

Oh deeja!!
![]() It really honestly IS quality over quantity, but that does leave you feeling so scared & unsure. I would absolutely INSIST & fight with every ounce of my being for a 3dt. Make sure that you put your foot down & remind him that you're paying him, not the other way around. Some RE's like 5dt's, but honestly, they don't really have the right to tell you that you can't have your little ones back in you sooner, if that's what you choose!! They do better inside of you than in a dish any way, so push for your little ones sweetie!! ![]() I'll be praying for your little ones & will be watching for your next update!! ![]() ![]() Karen

Sorry to hear about the fert. results. I would discuss with your doctor whether it would be better to have a 3dt over a 5dt. I never had a 3dt, but most women here swear by it. I hope your 4 embies make it. Looking forward to your update. :hug

Well...all 4 embies are still plugging along! We have x2 "2 Cell" and x2 "4 cell" embryos as of this morning (day 2)....2 grade 0 and 2 are grade 1...brought up the 3dt over 5dt and my RE said absolutley not! well well well....he said that 5dt gives more time for them to divide and up the success chances plus he has a great track record for DE IVF ...he was at 100% success in the last year! So, I'm going with it.......please keep on praying!! Thanks!

If they're going to make it to implantation and a full term baby, they'll make it to day 5 in a dish! Not to worry!!! Sorry you don't have more embryos, but I'm sure you'll have a couple of good ones to work with. Good Luck!
