I need some help
We've done one cycle of IVF/ICSI, had one IVF/ICSI canceled due to poor response on my part and today I got DH's sperm count from the nurse today and she said we need to consider getting a donor back up, it was that bad.
First off, how does that work/cost/etc and secondly, how hard was that decision to make? To go donor sperm versus adoption and DH's feelings and all? TIA, Emily

Hey,
My husband's count is bad and no swimmers so they were going to do TESA procedure. Have they talked to you about this? This is an option for many men who have bad counts, etc. You should ask them about this. It does add to the cost (about $ 2000 at our clinic). We were just told today at our 2nd failed IVF follow-up that donor insemination would probably be best for us due to cost and sperm issues. My husband was totally ok with it which surprised me. He was more ok with it than I was. It is really hard to make that decision. I totally understand where you are coming from but I realize now after 2 failed cycles that I really want a baby and if I was the one who needed donor eggs I'd do it in a heartbeat. Our RE wants us to see the counselor at her office before we make any decisions so we can talk about all the issues involved with that. I wish you success in your next cycle!

We purchased our ds at Calif Cryro and for one ivf our RE wanted 3 vials available. It was about $900 just for the ds. At first my DH had a very difficult time with accepting donor sperm, he was even wanting to go childless which was out of the question for me. After many therapy sessions and almost going our separate ways he was able to accept it and move forward.
Best of luck to you! |

My husband has no sperm - thus we choose the donor sperm route. I was extremely worried about all of this and was the one that did not want to do it. Then one day he said to me - if we use donor sperm instead of adoption we and only we will be the parents. It will be so less complicated because the whole time it will just be me and you - no extra people. I thought about this for a few weeks and knew he was right. We choose a donor that had blue eyes like my husbands and blonde hair. We narrowed the search done using health history of the family and the donor essays. We went with Fairfax Cryobank. Hope this helps - I want you to know you are not alone in this process I was were you are now just last year and am here for you. I had the same concerns and questions. Please feel free to email me directly jatj@pacbell.net
