rate of donor egg success
Hi, I'm new to this site, my husband and I have gone through IVF attempting to use my own eggs, couldn't stimulate enough using the max amount of drug, and as I am very open to using a donor, we have decided on that route. I am 40 years old, and have been told by doc that my rate of success should be around 75%. Has anyone had instant success with this, or should I expect several trys despite the odds. Thanks for any info anyone can provide based on experience

Well, I can honestly say if it weren't for donor "embryos" DH and I would not be parents. For us the first DFET was a BFN due to embryo quality, but the 2nd DFET (with diff. embies - much better quaility) was a hugh BFP, we have bb/b triplets as a result. In my opinion I do think with frozen cycles the quality of the embryo plays a big role in whether or not the cycle is successful. For us, this was the only route due to my one ovary not responding to massive doses of stims, high fsh levels and DH's lack of swimmers. All testing showed that there was nothing wrong with my uterus so there was no reason, other than embryo quaility, that I would not get pg.
I thank God everyday for the generosity of the donors. We could not love these boys anymore if they were our bio children. It's really funny, because each of them have definite traits of both DH and me...it never ceases to amaze us. Oh, I forgot to mention that I was also 40 when I had them (almost 41)!

First of all, welcome to FT!!
As to your question about the success rates, it will greatly vary from RE to RE, so that's a tough one to answer. I've seen some RE's with high DE success, & other RE's with success rates around 11%! So, it really depends on the RE you're seeing & what their personal stats are. As for whether or not it'll work the first time, that's just something that no one can answer. Unfortunately you can have an absolutely perfect cycle & still have it fail, for no known reasons or you can have not so good embryo's & still end up with success. I've seen people do DE & be successful on their first try & others need to try it 3-4 times before being successful. It depends on so many different things. Good luck! Keep us posted on how things are going for you! Karen

Success rates do vary as Karen mentioned above. My clinic gave me a 50-75% success rate. I got pg on my first try with a singleton. Sometimes I think it is just the luck of the draw. Some try several times and never get pg and some get pg with twins on the first try.
Have you already had a hysterscope or a water sonogram to check your uterus for polyps and such? My RE does this for all of his patients. I am just mentioning this because DE cycles are so very expensive to start with. He had a patient that had already gone through a DE cycle 2x with another RE and got bfns, only to find out later with a hysterscope that she had a HUGE growth in her uterus which took up most of her uterus..this of course being the cause of the embryos not attaching. Anyhow...good luck to you! |

thanks everyone for your info, I at least feel with using donor eggs, that I have at least a glimmer of hope. I have had a hysteroscopy done by my doc to remove a polyp, and he said everything else looked great. I was just not able to make many eggs with stimulation, so instead of beating myself up with several cycles on my own, we have chosen this route. I have already picked the donor, and will meet with my doc tomorrow to discuss getting started. He mentioned about doing a uterine biopsy, anyone had this done? I am using this down time to go for runs at the beach and mentally healthy. Congratulations to all of you that this has worked for, these donors amaze me, I definately will not take lightly what this person is about to do for us. And her comment to us chosing her was that she was flattered. Amazing

Ironchick,
I was well into my forties and got pregnant on the first try.....we started out with triplets, and gave birth to twin boys. The statistics can vary from clinic to clinic. I see you are in Southern California also.........I am sending you many positive thoughts as you begin your journey. Margaret Anne |

So glad that this thead is here. I just started my DE FET and I am so excited, and it's so nice to see such positive results the first time around. I do know that we are working with high quality 5 day blasts, and when they thaw, I hope they are still looking good. This is my first shot after waiting almost two years to even get here, I am very positive, my RE is VERY positive and we are going to stay that way until there is a reason not to . I know things aren't always smooth but having this BB helps so much with support. Thanks for this thread.
