Success rates with IUI and DS?

My RE really discouraged me this week. We just got our 3rd negative IUI cycle with donor sperm. He says our chances of conceiving our 10% and not more. I thought because we're stimming and have 4-5 mature follicles that the rate was higher but he insists it's not because the sperm is frozen and that reduces the rate. He's pushing me to move on to IVF. Does anyone know is 10% rate realistic? I can't afford IVF but it's getting pretty expensive with drugs/sperm/insemination that I'm wondering if it's even worth continuing for 10% chance. The disappointment is getting to be too much also.

Any success stories with frozen sperm?

I am on my second IUI with DS. The first one obviously game back negative. I have no idea what the success rate would be but would be interested in finding out. Good Luck to you.

I would be one to encourage you....I am ttc#3 with DS IUI.....'
My first was conceived with the first IUI with 100 ml clomid
my second was conceived with the second IUI with OPK
My third...well we have our fingers crossed, as we have 2 more samples left. I have heard that you have 20-30% each cycle. They do remove all obsticles for the sperm.....Do you know...Does your donor have any bio children??? I dont know your whole history, but it does work...but not for everyone. Good luck...It can be a very difficult decision...

hmmm, i had never heard it was 10% chance of getting pregnant. I don't see how that can be! I have two children from donor sperm. The first one using injectibles, i got pregnant the very first time and the second child i did OPK and again got pregnant the very first time, so I don't see how that percentage can be. I wouldn't get too discouraged if I were you, for some it takes at least 3 to get pregnant

Well, I didn't use injectibles until my last cycle. But, it took me 5 diui cycles to conceive my son (clomid, OPKs) and took me 6 cycles of diui (same protocol, one break from clomid) to conceive my daughter, last cycle included no clomid but an HCG shot. Reputable sperm bank (California Cryo); low tech approach with doctors in my small rural town who were friends/neighbors.

I took me two natural cycles (u/s monitoring and HCG shot for timing) to conceive number one. It took me 6 cycles to conceive number two (2 natural, 2 clomid, and 2 injectible). It took me just one injectible cycle to conceive number three and four (twins). I think your chances each cycle are more like 25-30%. Some factors that could be messing you up are timing, whether or not you have a proven donor (are there reported pregnancies from your donor?), some underlying issue you have that you aren't aware of. Frozen sperm is not substandard , your Dr is a moron for saying that! I hope they aren't washing your sperm wrong and wrecking it. What have your counts and motility been like for the three cycles you've done? I have four little kids running around my house that can totally dispute that comment!

Thank you girls. You gave me hope in the process!! I don't know what the counts and motility are because when I ask i'm told "we only choose donors with good sperm". I asked the statistics for my first donor (the first 2 cycles) and he has a success rate of 6% (1 out of 12). I freaked when I found this out and changed immediately. My second donor has a success rate of 50% (6 out of 12) 3 with IVF and 3 with IUI. My last cycle the timing was off because I ovulated on my own so I don't feel like any of my cycles were really a good try.

Hi, I've kind of been lurking and just had to barge in. Hope, are you choosing your donors or is your doctor choosing? If you're not choosing your own donor, something is wrong! Look at the California Cryobank website for some more information - also, that statistic of 10% is totally wrong. That's for unassisted reproduction, with everything fine. Is your doctor an RE? What I've learned from a year of this process is to take control of it myself and be pro-active, not just take what doctors tell me as the gospel truth. Good luck to you!!

Hope2005, this is kind of off topic but how do you know that you ovulated on your own? What kind of medication were you taking? My doctor says it's nearly impossible to ovulate on your own when taking fertility medications because you are overriding Mother Nature. I feel like both cycles I ovulated on my own because my estrogen level dropped and then he added more medicine and it went back up. I am in the 2ww wait right now with my second cycle of donor iui. I just had to weigh in on this one. There are many factors( age , fertility drugs) that can effect the success rate stats. Our RE told us that the success rate for a women age 35-38, IUI, no drugs, donor sperm was 8%-10% PER CYCLE. Add clomid and injections goes up to 12% - 13% success rate PER CYCLE. IVF 50% success rate PER CYCLE. I stress the PER CYCLE aspect because this is where it is hopeful. Our doctor explained it this way... If you have a 10% chance each cycle, after 5 cycles about 50% of women concieve. It's the laws of mathimatical probability. This is exactly how long it took us. We concieved on cycle 5. It's is alot more hopeful than it sounds.
Good luck.
