Looking for DS buddies...

Hi, there - I'm hoping to meet someone who's cycling with DS or thinking about it.

My story: I'm on my fourth IVF cycle in a year - the first with DS. My DH and I got married about a year ago and I used the ovulation monitor for a few months - nothing happened, so had us checked out just to make sure everything was okay. We found there were severe MF issues, leaving us with only IVF/ICSI as an option. After three failed "perfect" cycles, our RE ordered the SCSA test for DNA fragmentation which came up at 40 percent, even after him taking anti-oxidants for a year. Anything over 15 percent is considered abnormal. Soooo... we're doing one last IVF with DS (we could do IUI but this gives us more control over the process and we're lucky enough to be covered by insurance).

The toughest part has been giving up the hope of having a child that's biologically my DH's. Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar situation. I'd love to hear your story!

Baby dust,
Nina

Hi Nina -

We are doing IUI's with DS. My DH has azoospermia (no sperm) caused by undescended testes as a child.

It was hard to deal with but our situation is so absolute - it was easier than most. We just want a child.

We have insurance - but they will onlt pay if we use DH's sperm. Since there is none...we are out of luck. I am appealing to the insurance company to see what we can do.

Good luck to you!

Jennifer

Hello there! We are going through our first dIUI cycle this month. My dh also has non-obstructive azoospermia (no sperm production), we think he had the mumps as a child. We went for IVf/TESE which lead to the diagnosis of NOA. We then decided to procede with adoption after almost a year & a half of grieving for the loss. We had a failed adoption in Nov., when our potential birthmother changed her mind at the baby's birth.......which leads us to where we are today. (phew, thats tiring just writing it!)

But, here we are, trying our first Diui this month. I have an "HSG" procedure scheduled for wed the 15th, just to make sure my tubes are open. I hope we have some 2ww'ers on this bb!

I am so glad this option is available to us....& I hope people become more open to it!

children ment.

Hi Nina,
My dh also has azoospermia. When we found out, we were in an area where medical help just wasn't possible, so we adopted 2 beautiful dd at birth. They are 6 and 3. We now live in an area that is more conveniantly located to medical tx, so we decided to give the donor s. a try doing IUI. We would both like the joy of going through the 9 months and childbirth. We are obviously not concerned with biology or we would not have adopted. My dh doesn't talk about it, but I am sure that deep down it hurts and always will. However, since starting tx., we have found that I have PCOS and I am older, so male factor isn't our only hurdle. If we conceive it will truely be a miracle baby. I hope it works out for you.
Baby dust to all

Hi, I guess I can say I'm in the 2ww. I had my first IUI today and will have another Monday. My husband has Klinefelter's and we decided not to go the TESE route. We are both fine with donor. We truly feel it's not about biology, it's who's there and raises the child that are the parents. Can't wait to get to know you all better...Rebecca

Hi, everyone! It's so good to hear from others who can relate to this crazy, scary, inspiring, frustrating process!

Rebecca, good luck on your IUI - my fingers are crossed for you!! I agree with you about biology not being the main thing. My DD (I forgot to mention that I'm blessed with an 11 year old DD from a previous marriage - I was young and stupid and the marriage was a mistake except for her, the joy of my life) - anyway, she's only known my DH for 3 years but she's so much like him it's bizarre. She's got his sense of humor, his taste in music, his outlook on life, even his eyes. She's not biologically related to him but they are as dad/daughter as you can get! Nature counts but nurture has a lot to do with it. Keep us posted on your 2WW.

Sherry, that's amazing that you adopted two girls. I don't know that I could do that and am always in awe of people who do. Also, I've been on these boards (and others on another site) for a year and in that time lots of my cycle buddies have had miracles happen. I hope you get your miracle. It can happen!

Crissy, sounds like you went through hell with that adoption. Having the birth mother change her mind must have been crushing. I can't even imagine that and I admire your tenacity to keep going. BTW, I had the HSG procedure and the doctor told me that you have a higher chance of pregnancy for 3 months afterwards. Good luck!

Jennifer, I feel so bad about your situation with the insurance company. Since you're the one having the procedure it shouldn't matter where the sperm comes from. Aggravating! Good luck with your appeal. Where are you in your cycle?

Baby dust to all,
Nina

Nina -

I am on CD 5. I started clomid today. (First time trying it - should be interesting!) I go in for a u/s on Monday to see where I am.

When do you start your IVF?

Jennifer

Nina, the IUIs went fine, the first was extremely painful!!! The doctor said I have a virginal cervix. Isn't that so nice to hear... Anyway, the second was much better as I guess the cervix had already been violated the first day, ha ha!!! I am on day three of waiting now, this 2ww is a killer!!! Rebecca

Hi, again!

Jennifer, I'm already in my cycle - started stims last Saturday. I'm seeing the RE tomorrow for an u/s to see how my follies are (grow, follies, grow!!) and if all goes well the ER will be the following week. Never taken clomid. I know everything about IVF but nothing about IUIs - what is clomid for? Hope the side effects are minimal and this is the last time you're taking it!!

Rebecca, I can so relate to the torture of the 2WW. Time just crawls, doesn't it. Not that I'm wishing time away but may it fly by for you!!

Hey to everyone else--

Nina
