Let Me Explain is going out of print
I notice from the discussion below that not everyone is fond of the book (though as a correction I want to note that this is NOT the sex ed book with the naked people in it.) But since it has been and is remains the only children's book on the market for kids conceived by donor insemination are in heterosexual two parent families, Let Me Explain: A Story about Donor Insemination by Jane Schnitter has been valuable to some families for the ten years since its publication.
YEs, there are other books that mention DI as one of the ways families are made (such as How Babies and Families Are MAde:There IS More Than One Way--the book with the naked shower scene). But none of them are JUST about DI. As an educator and an adoptive parent who feels strongly that every child has a right to know his origins, it has been very hard to see this book sell so very slowly. Ultimately, I've decided to let it go out of print. We just can't afford to reprint when so very few families seem to be telling their children about their donor conceptions. Because we at Perspectives Press, Inc.: The Infertility and Adoption Publisher are the publishers of this book, it is from us that resellers such as Amazon, Tapestry, etc. get their stock. We now have fewer than 80 copies left, and there are probably 35 more available to Amazon through our wholesaler, Ingram Book Company. When these are gone, they are gone, and I can't imagine that there will soon be another DI book published. If you would like one of these last few, now's the time.
