Day 5 Transfer
I was supposed to have the transfer today @ 2:15 but they called early this a.m. and rescheduled me for Saturday - Day 5...my doc assured that this was a "good" thing and he should know? I am in Washington DC at one of the most well known clinics...they were on Dr. Phil last year
They gave a couple that could not afford it a free IVF treatment...I am certain it was good adversting as well though. So I am hoping he knows what is best....I would like a web site to research the difference between day 3 and day 5 transfer...does anyone know of one? I am in hurry up and wait mode again...I told my doc that I was a "control freak" and this is killing me and he said I would have to get over that.....LOL, not a chance I am afraid! Will update you all on Saturday. Gayle

This is another one of those things that is a personal preference. I don't have the guts or the nerves to go to a 5dt so we'll be doing a 3dt. Embryo's that go beyond 3days need a special medium. Certain clinics are more experienced in 5 day transfers and have good rates with it. My clinic mostly does 3 day transfers because they believe the success rates are similar. I do have the choice though if I wanted to do 5 day instead of 3 day. Personally, I think it should have been your choice, but I suppose certainly clinics don't give you that option.
I frequent another site and recently put up a question re: 3 day vs 5 day. Here's a link: http://www.allaboutsurrogacy.com/for...showtopic=7966 At this point, you need to put your trust in your RE and your faith in God. I'm sure everything will turn out just fine. Good luck and keep us posted.

Good luck Gayle. I never had a 3-day transfer, so really can't opine on the benefits thereof. My guess is that if your little ones make it to day 5, they are fighters! Many say that the embies are best inside of you and therefore a 3-day transfer would be preferable. I am sure your RE is making the right decision for you. Please keep us posted once transfer occurs.

Hi --
I also live in the DC area, and I've been through 3 DE cycles at a prominent local facility (perhaps the same one as yours!). I've had one 3-day transfer, one 5-day transfer, and one 6-day transfer. (I'm currently in the 2ww for the 5-day, having not gotten pregnant after the first transfer and m/ced after my second transfer.) I've done lots of research on 3 v. 5-day transfers, and my understanding is that with a 5-day, there is less "guesswork" as to which are the best embryos to transfer; however, they need to be inside the uterus by around day 5-6 for the best chance of implantation, so it's chancey to wait until then because the window of opportunity might have already closed or be about to close. My conclusion from all this is that there are pros and cons to both. Good luck to you -- hope your 5-day goes well. Debbie |

I had a blastocyst transfer and SM had a blatocyst transfer of which neither resulted in a pregnancy. The only pregnancies we have had were from 3 day transfers. Go figure!!! I don't know if it makes a whole lot of sense. The RE at our clinic said that whether you go 3 day or 5 day the pregnancy rates are the same. Now of course with 5 day embryos since they are so much more developed you can be conservative and most RE's are... in the amount that you transfer... usually no more than 2-5 day blasts. Also I was told that if you had less than 10 eggs that the clinic we used usually recommends doing a 3 day transfer. If you have more than 10 eggs then they reccomend freezing half at 3 day and doing a 5 day transfer. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
